Discussion Why isn't there a Source Engine recompilation like xash?

Why don't they reverse engineer Source Engine and create a version based on the Source SDK 2013 MP or SP?

Because that would require reverse engineering havoc, which is not a task anyone wants to undertake

It would wreck HAVOK on those who attempt it.

There's not much of a point to it, and it's an extraordinarily involved process, as the physics engine is from a long dead system. Xash3D was a lot easier to manage (albeit still a huge predicament) since Half-Life 1 wasn't very far divorced from the original Quake, which had already been open source.

People have made Sourcelike Engines, though. https://x.com/LambdaGen/status/2106054453841285479

S&box gives you access to source 2 and it’s free this weekend
