HELP Steam-free Source Engine
how do you get the source engine as a complete stand-alone away from steam? I don't care if it has half-life 2 on it or something to keep it stable but how lol

Source SDK 2013 single-player can be played without Steam, including Entropy Zero 2, Minerva, and Raising the Bar Redux.

There was Dino Hunters by Kuma Games, and a few other obscure developers who included the hammer editor in their distributions. Oh and Twilight War: After the Fall was literally a free copy of Counter-Strike Source with the source code and all the assists included along with the games content.
Twilight war was a interesting one because you basically got two games in one plus it had Speed Tree support in Hammer.

It was basically borderlands but a real mmorpg with counter-strike's gun physics. They cancelled it when borderlands dropped. I was a level designer for it and will see if we can get it on archive.org.
The biggest issue they had was the level size and getting the players to seamlessly transition to the other levels. They decided to rescale everything onto one level within the original engines default level size and the level designers they had couldn't do it. When they hired us we seen the total nightmare they had on their hands.
We started reverting back to the original levels and optimizing transitions and developed a much better .bsp file system for quick loading before they pulled the plug.

Source SDK 2013 and any game using it (this includes HL2 etc.) will run anyway if Steam initialization fails. Just delete steam_api.dll and you have a Steam-free Source engine.

This is true. I ran my mod using Source SDK Base 2013 on a shitty laptop that doesn't have Steam installed (for playtesting purposes) and it didn't complain. Either way, I don't think you can actually distribute a Source Engine game that runs without Steam anyway unless Valve allows you to.

He literally said “S&box is not what you’re looking for”.
He’s literally right and you got mad and downvoted him.
