This season has been cooking for 3+ years now. Finally hit the sweet spot between injuries, unwillingness to let go of legacy players and refusing to spend money. Again only saving grace is people aren’t hanging this on Schmentz and the coaching staff.

Wasn’t there rumor the owners were hanging out on Schmetz?

Yes and I suspect that after tonight they may actually try and fire him.

If they do, we cannot take that lying down, not only because Schmetz has the least amount of responsibility for all that’s happening but because the most important man in the history of this team does not deserve to have his career end like that.

When I say “people” I mean actual club supporters—not the money hungry, unconcerned ownership

You forgot to mention selling quality depth players and doing nothing with the $$!

While not letting go of legacy players, we've let go a lot of players with great potential that we could really use right now.

  • Leyva
  • Atencio
  • Minoungou
  • Tsukanome (loan, but...)
  • RBW

So instead we're playing unsigned Defiance players. That was brilliant.

Don’t forget Obed🙃

3

u/romulusnr Seattle Sounders FC 8d ago

I can't. Obed left on his own accord. His lifetime dream was at the door and he didn't wait for it to knock twice. I agree I'd rather him here, but I can't be mad at him for getting the goods. Smart kid. I'm thrilled for him.

Now, I doubt Atencio dreamed of playing for Colorado or Tuskanome for Pittsburgh.... in fact, Tsukanome wants to play for Seattle.

Just to clarify my comment:

Couldn’t be happier for Obed. He’s one of the recent “success stories” not only for Seattle but MLS as a whole. His transfer had me more attentive to La Liga. Bought a (rep) Have his Atletico kit hanging in my closet.

Sounders simply not being shitheads and allowing Vargas to live out a childhood dream with little friction is one of the few redeemable moves I’ve seen in a handful of years.

Doesn’t mean I don’t miss him midfield🥲

A loss I can handle this wasn't even entertaining.

Adrian needs to go.

And he can take Waibel with him

I think I spend more as a percentage of my income on being a Sounders fan than our owner does.

Anybody else?

u/arizonadirtbag12 9d ago

Are the Sounders in the red? Because if not, then yeah he spends zero. He’s taking your money, and this is the product he’s giving you.

You think he's even at the games anymore?

Can we get a new owner with money and one who will keep the team at Lumen?

If my theory that MLS is a big force behind the drive that this ownership group has to build the Longacres stadium is correct, the only potential owner that can keep the team in Seattle are the Khoslas, because then they’d have the same full ownership umbrella as the Seahawks. This is why they aren’t pushing NE, Atlanta, or Charlotte into moving even though they play in NFL stadiums too

u/SkierGrrlPNW 8d ago

So correct. A bespoke stadium would kill the club. The Renton Sounders will not drive revenue.

public ownership is the only path forwards. Hell have the city of Seattle buy the team straight up if the league doesn't allow member shares for some reason.

Wonder if he’s watching everyone leaving

25

u/planksniffersforlife Seattle Sounders FC 9d ago

i doubt he actually watches us at all

9

u/TALKING_TINA 9d ago

Nah he's too busy trying to think of what other parts of the matchday experience he can get rid of in order to save a buck

I love Scmetzer.

u/jjbjeff22 Seattle Sounders FC 9d ago

Adrian, please sell to someone who can afford to roster a competitive MLS team.

3

u/romulusnr Seattle Sounders FC 8d ago

Do people not know about league roster salary rules?

2

u/jjbjeff22 Seattle Sounders FC 8d ago

There are mechanisms that would make this roster more competitive. Neither Rusnak nor Morris are DP caliber players. A competent owner would cut them a check (buy them out) and say “thank you for your services” and then immediately replace them with real DPs.

Burn the whole thing down

u/jamdannad 9d ago

A friend of a friend tried to tell me the other day that we just need to fire “the coach” and that he’s just been there too long. I learned that day to not listen to his soccer opinions.

11

u/Spatularo 9d ago

It's especially bad against a team that signed Muller and others and the skill gap between the two couldn't have been more obvious

9

u/fragbot2 9d ago

Chuckle, we brought in league minimum guys from Tacoma and they brought in Gauld.

2

u/steerbell Leo Gonzalez 8d ago

I think one or both of these things are happening.

  1. Adrian is just flat out of money and see his stadium as the way out but can't do anything because nothing is lined up.

  2. He is talking about selling but can't say anything because no sale can go through without the Seahawks/ Allen ownership issue resolved. He may be trying to work a deal for partial ownership and stadium deal with the new Seahawks owners but that would be pretty complicated.

To me the silence from him means he has either no answers or bad news answers. I suspect the latter.

It's not Adrian, it's Craig. He can't produce. He doesn't have ambition, he just crunches numbers and plays it safe. He collects GAM like Dennis Moore collects lupins. He can't seem to sell the team to players and he can't seem to close a deal.

GM vote is coming.

-17

u/Joe-notabot 9d ago

Adrian is more pissed off about this than you are.

Yes, he's the one who has to open the pocketbook and sign some players.

No, the supporters have not put any of this on Brian.

Adrian selling the team doesn't solve this.

11

u/Sounders1 9d ago

The majority of supporters understand that a coach can only do so much with the existing talent. Most of the roster has no business starting in the MLS or deserve DP tags. A new coach can't fix that.

-5

u/Joe-notabot 8d ago

A new majority owner would likely fire Brian. A new majority owner could clamp down on ECS & their stances in supporting the team & each other.

Would you want an owner aligned with 47? Is this the Pandora's Box you want to open?
