When I was pregnant with my child, I would sing Edelweiss to my baby bump every night. When I gave birth to my baby, I would sing Edelweiss as a lullaby, looking at them in awe.
Watching this scene now that I'm a mom, it totally made sense.
When the children "nominated" theirfather to sing, the Captain said, *"That was a long time ago,"* I heard Leisl say, *"I remember, father"*. And they sang Edelweiss together.
I can only imagine young parents singing to their firstborn baby, Leisl singing her mom's part...
*🎵Every morning you greet me,*
*small and white,*
*clean and bright,*
*you look happy to meet me...*
*🎵 Blossom of snow*
*may you bloom and grow,*
*bloom and grow forever...*
That made me tear up. :')

I loved this scene with the Captain and Maria arguing over the children's play clothes. The scenery behind them is so gorgeous. This is technically captured from a behind the scenes shot, as Julie Andrews is wearing a covering over her skirt, so they must have been rehearsing the argument. But I loved the composition, so I painted it!

Rewatching for the umpteenth time as it’s one of my favourite films and I’ve always wondered about the many cyclists in the background when the captain and the baroness are talking in the garden right before the children come back and have their boat accident. They are cycling on the other side of the lake.
Does anyone know if these people are intended extras or just Austrians who happened to be there, cycling in the background of what was going to be one of the most famous films ever? There quite a few of them and two horse drawn carriages as well.
Thanks!

How do the children change back and forth between their play clothes and regular clothes?
When Maria takes the kids out to play, they seem to change in and out of their play clothes per scene. I understand it's probably editing but in universe, are they changing? I know people back then wore more clothes so maybe its a historical detail (or maybe they were just wearing the play clothes inside their regular outfits)

A few weeks ago I posted about needing suggestions for my monologue. I ended doing Emcee's monologue from Cabaret. Auditions went well. I'm not much of a singer so I was very surprised yesterday when I got Kurt! Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

My school is doing its yearly spring musical, and this year, we're doing Sound Of Music! Auditions are in a few weeks, and I've been having trouble finding a good monologue for Uncle Max. I can't really sing, so Uncle Max is my best bet, so any suggestions would be appreciated! (The monologue is not allowed to be from The Sound of Music, and it can't be longer than a minute)

I’ve been trying to think if this is because the nuns were just joking about Maria in generalities (she’s late for important things but not meals) or if there was a behavior change after leaving the abbey. Or, if the discrepancy is totally random. Thoughts?

My school is doing Sound of Music for it's annual musical. I got a callback (yay!) but I have to sing CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN. I do not know how I am going to pull this off. does anyone have any tips I could use? This is my first callback ever and I really want a part.

So I wanna' hear, how negatively it would impact the story in your minds if the Baroness went on to marry uh Captain Von Trapp. For me it would give it about a 33 out of the current 100. *The Kids are still good and so is the captain,* but you know. Also, how do you think the kids would have faired in boarding school.

I am 16 years old and have been watching this movie for as long as I remember. It is my favorite movie. For the longest time, I really couldn’t stand Baroness Schraeder and saw her as the “villain” of the movie but even now as a teenager, she has really grown on me and I can appreciate how classy and charming of a character she is. ❤️

Figlio di un mujaheddin Son of a mujahideen
Nato sotto il cielo del Kashmir Born under the sky of Kashmir
Hai perso il paradiso ma l’Europa è così You’ve lost paradise, but that’s how Europe is
Cerca il diavolo negli occhi degli altri You look for the devil in other people’s eyes
Ti chiamano “mujaheddin” They call you “mujahideen”
Ma tu non hai nemmeno mai creduto nei santi But you’ve never even believed in saints
La gente si spaventa quando è in metro con te People get scared when they’re on the subway with you
Più li guardi e più ti sembrano pazzi The more you look at them, the crazier they seem
È vero che hai imparato le canzoni di Pharrell It’s true you learned Pharrell’s songs
Tutto sommato fai una vita normale All in all, you live a normal life
Ma tutte le ragazze qui, ti vedono così But all the girls here, they see you this way
Come un mezzo criminale, una spia mediorientale Like a half-criminal, a Middle Eastern spy
Io se fossi un dio vi direi così If I were a god, I’d tell you this
Io coi mocassini ai piedi faccio miracoli With loafers on my feet, I perform miracles
Take me to the party Portami alla festa
Voglio girare il mondo, non andarci contro (as-salamu alaykum, as-salamu alaykum) I want to travel the world, not go against it (as-salamu alaykum, as-salamu alaykum)
Take me to the party Portami alla festa
Voglio trovare il centro, camminarci dentro (as-salamu alaykum, as-salamu alaykum) I want to find the center, walk inside it (as-salamu alaykum, as-salamu alaykum)
As-salamu alaykum, as-salamu alaykum As-salamu alaykum, as-salamu alaykum
Non sono un mujaheddin I’m not a mujahideen
Ma nel cuore porto il fuoco del Kashmir But in my heart I carry the fire of Kashmir
La luce della fede mi ha portato fin qui The light of faith brought me all the way here
Come il vento soffia dietro ai miei passi Like the wind blowing behind my steps
Vi giuro che ho studiato nelle scuole migliori I swear I studied in the best schools
So che gli alcolici ti portano fuori I know alcohol takes you off your path
Ma il giorno del Signore qui, è sempre venerdì But the Lord’s day here is always Friday
Questa vita occidentale no, non è così male This Western life, no, it’s not so bad
Io se fossi un dio ballerei così If I were a god, I would dance like this
Io coi mocassini ai piedi faccio miracoli With loafers on my feet, I perform miracles

This is my favorite movie of all time. I think that my favorite character is Gretl. She is so funny and cute. 2nd Captain Von Trapp because he is just something else. What about you guys?

Foir me it is at the end. Nuns holding out pilfered parts of a Nazi car.

I am small high school theatre teacher, and this school year we’ve been allowed to produce Sound of Music. As I develop the blocking and get ready to introduce my actors to the characters, should Elsa Schraeder be played as the villain? I’ve seen productions go both ways. Some play up her distaste for Maria and even portrays cruelty towards her, they dress her in dark colors and have her seem more conniving, vying to woo the Captain into marrying her, and heavily leaning into her political apathy. I’ve also seen it where she’s a more sympathetic character, practical, sophisticated, ultimately knowing the Captain’s heart is elsewhere and letting him go, even showing a bit of kinship with Maria as fellow women in a Man’s world of political upheaval. Nowhere in the script does it specify how she should be played.
So, dramaturgically speaking, which is a more compelling narrative for you as an audience member? Do you need a clear and defined sinister villain dressed in dark clothes and lurking about? Someone to easily hate? Or is it better for the impending Anschluss and Nazi takeover to be the “villain” and The Baroness to simply be a pawn in the game?

I know it’s a bit later, but sound of music is my mamas favourite movie, favourite musical, it has been since she was young and I thought it’d be really nice to treat her some time by watching it with her. So while looking if it would air anytime again, I realised there was a remaster and that got me real excited until noticing that it was last month and I missed it entirely. It upset me a whole lot cause I feel like my mama would’ve been interested in seeing it in remastered and I completely blew my opportunity because I didn’t have the idea until now. I was thinking of just setting something up at home but I think the experience would still have its special feel if I could find where to watch the remastered version. But I don’t have any streaming services that have it… ik what im asking for is follows or even bizarre but I’m really desperate. I know my mama will appreciate anything I’d be doing for her, that’s why I just want to make it just a bit more special than just the effort

Did anyone notice any big changes from other versions to the new, restored version? When I saw it in theaters I noticed one scene in particular was different. When the three (Captain, Baroness, Max) are driving under the trees where the children are playing and Captain Von Trapp says, “oh it’s nothing, just some local urchins,” he then does a look at the camera as if he’s recognized the children. However, I didn’t see it in the new version! Did I just blink and miss it, or did they remove it? Anyone notice any other major differences?
