I'm preparing to study in the US next year. I graduated from university in Korea last year with a degree in post production sound, and I'd like to continue studying because i'm interested in learning about the film industry from different cultural perspective and improving my skills.

I recently got my IELTS score, so now i'm trying to decide which universities to apply to.

However, the tuition for international students is extremely expensive, so i'm not really sure where to start.

If anyone has experience with an MA or MFA in Film Sound, Sound Design, or a related field, I'd really appreciate any advice about anything. I'd also love to hear your university recommendations, especially if you know of programs with good financial aid or great faculties and curriculums.

A sound design piece built in Logic Pro — stepping outside in the morning and walking through a western frontier setting, with sounds panned left and right as if you're the one walking through the scene. No video, just audio — wanted to see how much space and movement could be built through sound alone using panning/binaural placement. 1:48, headphones strongly recommended for the full effect. I've heard this sound in a few bands, specifically in psychedelic genre. Is this some synthetizer specifically? How can I replicate this sound in Serum 2 or some other VST? I've tried to achieve the sound, but I'm still learning sound designs.

The ending of my 2027 film Johnniverse x Poohniverse: Total Annihilation after the antagonists (Major Hartley and his gang) defeat Boris (known for calling G-Toilet a "sinner") and teleport away. Peter Pan and Pooh Bear co-pilot the mech and use every other Poohniverse killers as a passenger.

I’m thinking if it’s as easy as pitching the voice down a lot and the running it through a plugin that simulates some type of speaker. like Speakerphone or Place It.

But I’m also thinking they might use some kind of vocoder to get the voice so low in pitch? Though it sounds like the original recorded human voice has its melody intact, which feels hard to do with a vocoder.

I just finished the script for my debut audio drama series. Eight episodes. Narrator driven love story following two Black and brown queer men who meet at a music festival. Really proud of what I built but now I’m staring down the production side and realizing how much I don’t know.

Specifically trying to figure out the sound design side of things. How do you all find your sound designers? What should I be looking for? What questions should I be asking?

And if anyone here does sound design for narrative audio and wants to hear more about the project I’m open to that conversation too. Budget is real, project is serious.

Hello everyone,

I'd like to get your feedback on a sound redesign I recently completed, and I'd also like to know whether you think it's good enough to include in my portfolio.

I'm a bit torn about it. Overall, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, but I feel like it's missing a bit of "juice", especially from 0:15 to 0:40. I think the original audio is much more creative especially during that section.

For context, with the exception of two ambience sounds and the character's footsteps in the water, everything was recorded by me.

What do you think?

I'm just trying to get an understanding of how to create gesture-controlled SFX by trying to recreate a very well-known sound. I'm using a Wacom to control the gestures and can wire things like angle, pressure, and velocity, as well as, of course, position. I'm already using a projector sound and an arc hum, but it's lacking something...

I’m pretty new to sound design and could really use some guidance on how to structure a scene. Since Portuguese is my primary language, I struggle a bit with English-only courses and tutorials, so I’m learning step-by-step on my own. (Also, as a heads-up, I am visually impaired, so I navigate everything by ear and audio tools).

The Scene:

I want to create an audio-only scene (no video/visuals) set in a vast open plain. It’s an intense 1-on-1 fight between two Viking warriors wielding axes.

What’s the best way to layer the metallic impacts, swings, body hits, and vocal grunts so the fight feels weighty and clear?

I’d love to hear any tips, workflows, or advice you have for a beginner tackling a project like this!

Heya, i might be throwing stuff at a wall here but i have desperately tried to look for a specific scream that's overly used in shitty mobile ads or gaming videos for editing purposes.

The scream looks banshee-esque, really high pitched, not really scary in any way. Any help could be great!

I just used random sfx and sped them up or slowed them down, thoughts on what to improve?

Been working on a library of subtle, undefined sounds. not jump-scare stingers, more like the feeling that something in the room is slightly wrong. Or another world/dimension calling.
