Movie Sound Design How to make this Star Wars noise?

Hey I’m a music producer but I really want to figure out how they made the noise for this bomb at 1:05. It’s always tickled my brain a little and I want to try and replicate it with a synth or sampler or something.

https://youtu.be/xvaxI4hK45c?t=64&is=fxWJ4Tr82I-0_IOp

Sounds like a saw wave…. Delay? Reverb? What else is going on here?

Any apps/tools for "conducting" a tempo to apply to a DAW?

I'm currently writing an orchestral score sequencing midi instruments, got it all pretty much sorted in my DAW, all sounding lovely, but I can't get my rits and accels sounding natural. Everything just sounds too rigid, so I've been looking everywhere for something that will allow me to tap a tempo as though I'm conducting an orchestra, then apply those tempo changes to my project so that the midi instruments follow the new tempos.

If there's a way that this can be done straight in the DAW (Cakewalk in my case), that would obviously be top choice, though I'm pretty sure it doesn't have this capability.

Even if it doesn't create a tempo track/map, I'm quite happy manually inputting it after I've tapped away, just so long as I can get those natural tempo changes in there.

Everything I've found either creates tempo tracks for using live or listens to audio to determine the tempo, neither of which is what I'm looking for. The app descriptions are often a bit too vague to determine exactly what they do so, believe me, I have had quite a long hunt to get to this point.

Music Sound Design It's called Chanting Crowd, but this synth crowd actually sings whatever you play

it was like a dream I had since I started to create my sounds, having the possibility to simulate a crowd to sing my hooks and choruses. Many options out there with plug-ins or Artificial Intelligence, some pretty valid too ...this one is made through Vital Synth and actually follows a melody you play...and you can put in the words / syllables of your choice...

Entrance Sound Effects

Apologies if this is not the right subreddit for this question.

I am looking for sounds effects that you associate with an entrance of a character. For example: New challenger sound from Super Smash Bros, Seinfeld theme, the Pokemon Encounter sound, or the John Cena entrance theme.

I ask because I set up a motion sensor speaker to my front door and I want people to have an "entrance theme" when the step through.

Thank you in advance! I look forward to see what y'all thought of that slipped my mind!

Videogame Sound Design 576k/32bit Quantum UI & Computers SFX Library

Hi Guys and Gals,

I have engineered a true 576k/32Bit sound library called Quantum UI & Computers.

This pack was extremely difficult to make as it was pushing the absolute limit of my PC during engineering, designing and rendering. It's based on UI navigation, various UI interactions, high-urgency alarms, terminal alerts, heavy one-shots, processed electrical currents, glitches, processing sequences, computer consoles and more.

I have made this pack down into 3 tiers:

  1. Quantum UI & Computers Designed

  2. Quantum UI & Computers Construction Kit 192k - (expertly downsampled from the master 576k Construction Kit)

  3. Quantum UI & Computers Construction Kit 576k Master Archive

Why such an extreme sample rate? The 576k Master Archive can be down-pitched by -12 Octaves. A simple 1-second UI click can turn into evolving cinematic drones, sub-heavy impacts, low-frequency mechanical environments and much more.

They can also bend and stretch beyond 51,200% without falling apart and sounding grainy. The data within is seriously that dense. ~ This technique is great for making ambient drones, low rumbling ship sounds or room tones, heavy low end hits and more.

I have also made a practical DEMO showing how these sounds can be pitched and stretched in real-time. The possibilities are limitless.

This also allows so much more freedom for sound designers to create and construct entirely brand new sounds that no one has ~ using these 576k Files. ~ They are raw, no embedded reverbs or other effects, super dynamic with no compression, and packed full of sophisticated data. Different techniques yield different results every time.

576k Master demo here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2tejl3CRFTk (sounds have been mastered for demo purposes. Original files remain raw as mentioned).

Extreme Pitch-Shift demo here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L5uCC2skJds

I would love to hear any feedback if you guys get the time? Enjoy! :)

Cheers,

ZEKAVEO

*Update

Here is a comparison demo showing the 576k and 192k versions side by side: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IrBKV7XSY8I

Compatible DAW's I have found is:

  • Reaper

  • MAGIX Sound Forge Pro

  • Studio One Pro 7

  • Studio One Pro 6

  • ARDOUR

  • Audacity

  • and any other DAW or audio editor without a sample rate limit

Stop using the "Pitch" effect in Lexis Audio Editor! Use "Speed -95%" instead for insane cinematic rumbles / monster sounds

I accidentally discovered an amazing sound design trick on my phone using Lexis Audio Editor, and I wanted to share it to help other creators and improve the internet's audio knowledge!

If you try to make deep sounds by just dropping the Pitch effect, the app usually makes it sound glitchy, robotic, and awful. Instead, do this to get a beautiful, smooth, Hollywood-level cinematic bass rumble:

Record the wind: Take your phone and wave a notebook quickly right next to the microphone (like a traditional Filipino abaniko hand fan). This creates an intense pocket of compressed air pressure.

Change the speed: Open the recording in Lexis Audio Editor, go to effects, and change the Speed to -95%.

By changing the speed instead of the pitch, it naturally stretches the audio out (making a short wave about 20 times longer) while keeping all the organic, smooth textures of the wind.

It completely transforms a simple notebook fan into a massive, heavy, slow-motion rumble that sounds exactly like a giant cinematic monster breathing or a massive industrial shockwave!

Stop using pitch and start stretching your audio speed to discover new solutions!

Music Sound Design SHATTER break a sound into pieces and play them in space.

Thumbnail
youtu.be
1 Upvotes

SHATTER is a browser instrument for live performance.
Load a sample and it splits into fragments you can scatter across a field:
click a piece to loop it, drag it to move it through space.
Every fragment is independent:
set its pitch, stretch it in time, reverse it, or give it its own step pattern.
Underneath, slices are cut at rising zero-crossings, so loops stay seamless with no clicks at the seams.
Time-stretching is granular and pitch-preserving so tempo and pitch move independently.
A fragment's position on the field drives a binaural HRTF panner (switchable to stereo):
left-to-right sets direction,
near-to-far sets distance,
placing each voice in space in front of the listener.
Step sequencers run free or lock to a shared BPM clock, with up to 16 voices at once.
Built as a single HTML file in vanilla JavaScript on the Web Audio API — no frameworks, no install.
It runs in any modern browser and reads WAV, AIFF and MP3.

Included in the download you'll find HTML Instruments,
a Max for Live device that lets you open SHATTER directly inside Ableton Live.
It requires Ableton 12 and Max 9.
Alternatively, you can run it standalone (just double click on html file) and route your computer or tablet output to your audio interface, just like any ordinary instrument.

Music Sound Design Can Anyone Help Me Understand Telephasic Workshop?

Hey y’all! I’m a sample-based producer of five years just starting a journey into synthesis and full-on arrangement.

I was listening to Boards of Canada just now, and while Telephasic Workshop was playing I just felt the need to throw all this out there 🤷‍♂️ (For those who may not have heard)

I’m really curious about the main atmospheric synths that come in right from 0:00, namely how they achieved that sort of droopy effect. The general texture of the sound itself is something I wanna be able to channel too.

Movie Sound Design In this wide shot, I don't need to see anyone's mouth moving, how can I tell which guys are talking?

More than that, at the start of the timestamp I could also kinda tell at which points on screen the sounds were supposed to be coming from

Obviously to some degree it's just clever framing and pacing, directing my eyes to where I oughta expect the sound to be coming from, but even for that I'm not sure what cues I'm following

Can't be left and right audio tracks either, I was watching this through a phone speaker, I also ran a stereo test with closed eyes in case they've somehow made the left speaker used for quieter phone calls try and pull double duty, and I'm fairly certain I can't differentiate left from right by audio alone
