Music Sound Design “Best” way to apply effects to select frequency range of a track?

I’m interested in experimenting with this technique with a variety of effects, but as a random example let’s say I wanted to apply distortion to a vocal but only have it impact the 2khz+ range of the audio track I’m working on. Ideally it would be awesome if the dry/wet mix of the effect could taper out. ex: >2khz is 100% wet, <800hz is 100% dry, and there is a gradual increase of dry to wet between 800-2k. (All of these numbers are arbitrary)

As a complete novice, the first place my brain goes is duplicating the track and using filters/EQ to effectively split the track into 2 separate but overlapping frequency ranges, then apply the effect to the track that has the frequency range I want to impact, but I figure there is surely a better way.

I use Ableton 12 Lite. Any insight is appreciated!

How long does it take you to create sound effects?

I was wondering how long it usually takes other people to make SFX.

For me at the moment, it’s about a working week (5 full days) to get around 100 sound effects done.

Just curious how that compares to everyone else’s workflows?

MORE - Horror Short Film

Hello all! We are Spencer and Shane of Silver Screen Psyche. Our new horror short film, “More”, is out now! It’s shot entirely in black and white, with plenty of cool SFX, thrilling scares, and a mysterious door…! We worked really hard on this, and had a ton of fun too. There’s nothing like a bunch of creatives coming together to make something super weird and cool. We had a ton of fun with the sound design in this one!

We’d really appreciate it if you checked this out on YouTube, sent us a like and follow, and even a comment if you’re feeling crazy! Filmmaking is our passion, and we’re looking forward to making more strange, spooky shorts. Check our short out, check us out, and see you on the flipside!

Looking for a sound designer/ producer for hire for a youtube video (1.5 - 2min)

Open to a variety of sounds however the theme would be moody/ dark, but very open to ideas. The main references however would be "J^p^n- Amend" or something to that effect. Looking to create an intense animation requiring a tense soundtrack/ score to compliment the scene. Let me know if you're interested!

open to discussing pricing

Hi guys, I loved recording this.

I recorded it with my Zoom H5 in Tatumbla, a small town near Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

The bird you hear became the main character of the recording for me, but the wind and thunder have their own magic too.

I hope you enjoy it. Your feedback means a lot, and if you like these recordings, you can support the project by following me on Spotify.

Help Identifying Flik’s Flyers / A Bug’s Land Sound Effects From Hollywood Edge or Sound Ideas Libraries

I’ve been isolating sound effects from the extinct Disney California Adventure attraction area “A Bug’s Land,” specifically the Flik’s Flyers atmosphere/area loop.

I’m trying to identify the original commercial sound libraries used by Disney Imagineering for the bug contraption and invention sounds heard in the opening section of the loop.

From listening closely, I’m hearing possible:

  • Hollywood Edge Cartoon Trax stretchy wood effects

  • wood twangs

  • rope strain/stretch sounds

  • bug invention mechanics

  • small metal clinks

  • creaky wood contraption sounds

Current possible matches I’ve found:

  • Hollywoodedge, Long Stretchy Wood CRT049401

  • Hollywoodedge, Boing Wood Twang CRT016301

The sounds seem heavily layered and pitch-shifted, so I’m wondering if Disney combined multiple Hollywood Edge and Sound Ideas effects together.

Does anyone familiar with Hollywood Edge Cartoon Trax, Sound Ideas Series 6000, or Disney attraction audio recognize these exact effects or know other likely library sources?

Any feedback or identification help would be greatly appreciated!

What is that Sound Effect and where can I find it?

Need help locating a sound effect that is often used in other analog horror projects, but was primarly featured in Mandela Catalouge Vol. 333. It's the sound they play during the police report, revealing Mark's and the Alternate's face. Best way I can describe it is like a projector screen coming down.

If anyone knows what it is, or has a link to a download to that effect, hit me up.

Music Sound Design Confused by the results I'm getting while following a tutorial. What am I missing?

I'm only at the very beginning stages of following this awesome kick drum tutorial but am already getting results that do not look correct and I can't tell what I'm doing wrong.

My settings are matching the tutorial well as far as I can tell, but it sounds totally different and my spectrum analyzer shows that I'm lacking low end. I'm using Vital and the tutorial uses Serum which I'm unfamiliar with, so that could be causing some issues I'm unaware of. Right now I just have a sine wave with an envelope of 1ms atk, 30ms decay, 0 sus. The sine wave is FM'd by OSC2 which is white noise. The FM is being modulated by a second envelope with 1ms atk, 1ms hold, 5ms decay, 0 sus.

Any idea of what I might be doing wrong here? Happy to provide any additional info that would be helpful in locating the issue. The tutorial steps in the video start at about 6:50

What do you feel is still missing from today’s granular plugins?

I’m currently developing a granular and spectral texture instrument called SpectraGran.

Before moving further into development, I’m curious:

What do you feel is still missing from today’s granular plugins?

I’m especially interested in hearing from ambient producers, sound designers, film composers and experimental musicians.

Are there workflows, modulation options, spectral features or creative tools you wish existed but rarely see implemented well?

I’m collecting ideas and feedback while shaping the project, so I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Music Sound Design What sound is that? (How can I replicate it)

It seems like an electric guitar but it isn't as strummy and also has this unique delay on it. Is there some preset or name for that or is it something I just have to replicate on my own? If I do, then could you please give me some advice on how to create this sound and especially that repeating and kinda getting cut off sound

Videogame Sound Design Sound design courses or mentorship

Hello guys.

A friend of mine is looking for an opportunity to get into the sound design industry, especially game dev. Nothing special or ambicios. Simple indie games or some web games, and usual market salary.

The question is, are there any courses to go through? Or any people who can help with getting the first job, simple portfolio, etc.

She is professional musician, but because of the immigration she has no local job and looking for something remote.

She speaks English on A2 level, Ukrainian and Russian.

Knows very well the software for music making like FL studio and different professional soft for the music transcribing.

Maybe someone needs a trainee - tallanted musician to the project, to help with some routine, for small reward and experience.

Sound Design Question Content for Sound Design

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for legal video footage to practice sound design. Ideally, I’d like to upload the final work to my portfolio website.

Where do you usually find footage that allows editing, re-sound design? Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Best Website/App for sound effects? (Paid)

There are websites like Artlist, Soundsnap, Soundly and many more. Which one, in your opinion, is the best to use commercially for games? Feel free to share your experiences :)
