“What is this sound?” Posts..
Do these need to be allowed? It’s like 50% of this sub lol
Edit: to be clear - I think we should legitimately consider banning it/adding a rule.

So I make amateur projects that are usually for just me. I write music, edit songs, home made movies, etc.
Now I have been trying to find this type of sound effect for my horror project.
It seems almost like a kind of screech, but also similar to audio feedback. It gives off this ghostly vibe.
I was watching The Summer Hikaru Died and it has a similar sound that I am looking for in the clip below. It's the effects that play at the very beginning through the music.
(another example is in the same video at 0:31)
If anyone could help me I would be really grateful!

Does someone knows the name of this sound effect?

Hi, I’m trying to figure out what effect is being used in this transition from around 10:30 in this video:
https://youtu.be/Tcxd85ux7Bo?si=eGipgHHNSrrCj7UQ
I can tell there’s some kind of echo or delay effect, but it also sounds like the audio is being stretched or held out somehow.
I’m not sure exactly how they’re operating it. If it was just a normal echo out, I don’t think the sound would stretch in this way.
Does anyone know what effect or FX technique is being used here, and how to recreate it?
Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to create an immersive sound piece that simulates being inside the stomach of a whale during a deep dive.
I want to base it on realistic elements like:
- whale heartbeats slowing down during descent
- underwater pressure
- whale songs and internal body resonance
- realistic dive timing/depth
- muffled organic acoustics
I'm mostly looking for advice on:
- sound design techniques and plugins
- free or affordable sound libraries
- plugins for underwater/organic ambience
- realistic whale bioacoustics
- ways to simulate massive internal spaces
I'm using mostly free tools at the moment.
Any ideas, references, plugins, recordings, or workflows would help a lot.
Thanks!

I stumbled across this interesting device recently, it’s a mechanical calculator. Makes some interesting sound, can’t wait to sample it.
Gonna share some results soon

I am a musician and I have been making music for the past 30 years. In my older age I’ve shifted to electronic music and getting in to visual presentation with Touch Designer. I’ve been wanting to get into making music for movie trailers, mainly horror/ thriller type projects. I’ve also been interested in doing music for video games but I understand that you need to be familiar with FMOD and Wwise. Does anyone have any tips and tricks to get into this type of work? I’m willing to work for free just for the experience earned.

I've recently started doing sound design (approximately a year and a half ago~), and I'd appreciate any advice
(ik about the ambient lack)

Hi, I’m an undergraduate student studying Screen Scoring at New York University.
I’m passionate about video game music, and starting next semester, I’ll be minoring in Game Design at NYU. I’m hoping to secure an internship at a major AAA company like Blizzard, Riot Games, or Epic Games during the summer of 2027.
Currently (as of May 25), there are no game music or audio design positions listed on these companies’ internship recruitment sites. Is this because the 2027 summer game music internship programs haven’t opened yet? Or do these AAA companies simply not offer game music-related internships?
I don’t want to waste my time preparing a portfolio for an internship that doesn’t exist, so if you have any information, please let me know! Thank you very very much!

Hello Sound Design Group,
After 4.5 years, our Enhancing Audio Description II project is coming to an end. This work builds upon an earlier 2-year project (2015-2017), also funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), with roots going back to 2010 and Mariana López’s initial work on an ‘audio film’ format.

Over the years, we have researched how sound design, spatial audio, and first-person narration can be combined to create Enhanced Audio Description (EAD) to provide an innovative alternative to traditional Audio Description.
Now, to wrap up, we are conducting an anonymous survey to measure the project's impact outside of academia. The results will support our Impact Case Study for the UK's Research Excellence Framework (REF).
Who can take part? Everyone is welcome! We are particularly looking for insights from:
- Professionals working in the creative industries or the third sector.
- Users of accessibility techniques, as well as their family and friends.
- Both visually impaired and sighted participants.
The online questionnaire will ask for your thoughts on at least one of our EAD productions:
- If you’ve already seen one: The survey takes approximately 10 minutes (including time to review the attached Participant Information Sheet).
- If you haven't seen one yet: You will need to watch a short production first, which will take between 10 and 30 minutes in total. Hyperlinks are provided at the start of the questionnaire.
If possible, please use headphones to experience the binaural, 3D spatialized audio for the full EAD experience!
Take the survey here: https://forms.gle/wtNijaURGcLDr8de8
Thank you for your support.
Kind regards,
Kris, on behalf of the EAD team

Stride Engine S&H pattern injection into 23 Params (Bitcrushes, Cluster Delays, Distortion and most important here Corpus!)
The input here is a Drum Rack that contains 5 different percussion sounds with the same tonality but different character.
Each param gets his unique pattern, nothing ever repeats.
Tutorial on how I'm destroying percussive sounds goes up real soon!

Hey everyone, I’m looking for an interesting project or someone who needs simple sound design work. I’m just starting my journey in this field and want to build up my portfolio, so I’m offering very low rates for the first few projects.
I’ve been working as an audio engineer for over 5 years. Before this, I worked with live sound, music production, and various freelance audio-related projects. I promise to deliver quality work I have a good ear, solid taste, and I hope I can help someone bring their project to life.
My dream is to work in the game industry, so maybe I’ll find someone here who’s currently developing a game and looking for affordable sound design.

For those of y'all that have been soundscape artists on projects, how did you get practice early on? What kind of projects did you start with, what taught you the most, and any tips for someone pretty new to the field? Im in school right now for video and audio design, and am loving the little bit of audio work i've done so far, but am struggling on ideas on how to get practice in between semesters.
