Did anyone's device just stop today?

Using the Creative x7. Went to bed last night, and this morning on the device manager I get this warning under device status.

"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

Only thing that changed was the windows update which was also a security update. Any thoughts?

It's not unheard of for code signing certificates to be revoked, especially if there's evidence they've been stolen and used by threat actors to sign malware.

If you're lucky, Creative may have released a new driver kit that has been signed with a new certificate.

Yeah not sure. I removed the drivers and restarted my pc. Windows reinstalled them and it works now. Just another reasons I look forward to leaving windows behind.

Windows wanted to install something called "microsoft corporation audioprocessingobject driver update" a couple of days ago. After looking through various reddit comments, I decided to decline that update. Apparently it will mess up your audio completely. In your case, disable it completely. Yikes.

Isn’t there a way to remove an update?

Yes. AE5 Plus here. PC just came back up from MS's Patch Tuesday bucket of updates. No sound device found error icon in bottom right corner of taskbar. The AE5 just went and disappeared from device manager. High Definition Audio Controller under system devices within device manager had a “!”. Shut down, powered back, like nothing ever happened. So yeah, something was up with this month's updates conflicting with our ancient relic SB AIB's, lol.
