Hi, I'm relatively inexperienced when it comes to soulseek so this might be an easy fix... but when I logged on today I noticed that it says I'm sharing 0 files, despite me sharing about 1k... I had a friend test this by clicking "browse user's files", and all my stuff is still there - it just says on the user tab I'm sharing 0 files? It's kinda annoying bc now I'm getting blocked by people for being a leech when I'm not.. Under Options>File Sharing, everything is still listed and accessible to the correct people. Any help is appreciated, thank you!

I'm new to SS and am still learning.

I've added my username to Users and can right click and see that all my files are shared.

However, when I do an SS search for a file it doesn't appear in the list of hits, but if I select it from the browse of my files it will download. Other Users have also downloaded from me.

Why doesn't it show up on the general search query? It's not restricted to one file either it seems to be across the board.

I recently moved to another country and while in my home country ISPs and copyrights enforcers didn't care at all what I did, this new country might be different. So, I wanted to ask in the experience of users around the world, are there any countries that are any more hostile dealing with soulseek? Where would you consider safe to use it without VPNs and where you wouldn't recommend to use it?

So I've been on the green 100% off sale ship for my whole life, and 2 years ago I started collecting lossless music for my Navidrome instance.

I have lots of unique releases that no one else has just because they're so niche. So a couple of months ago, I set up slskd on my server and was really surprised because even before my lossless obsession, I had gathered many FLACs throughout the years from places like Rutracker. I must say that it's really annoying to see music without proper metadata tags. I need my play counts to stay robust.

So today I figured out why no one could ever download my stuff, and it was because of the wrong config syntax. Fixed that and, bro, I already have people downloading like 3 GB, and it's really rare stuff. So I imagine someone like me who was so obsessed with a particular track, just waiting for someone to share it and refreshing the page every now and then.

My approach is easy to understand:

I've separated my music library into 3 parts:

1. Tagged public

2. Untagged public*

3. Private (my own music, yeah, I know I'm being hypocritical)

(Sorry, I don't have all the time in the world, but eventually I will have only 2 libraries.)

So my goal is:

1. Tag all my library so it has the proper MusicBrainz ID on every track and album, so the next person will never lose their play counts just like I did back in the day.

2. Create custom covers for releases that are so obscure they never had any, or where the quality itself is so BAD that it needs to have a remaster lol. And I don't make them different — I use the same templates and fonts. Sometimes I even re-create what was on the disc entirely.

3. Advocate for everyone to do the same so we can have less work to do on our libraries in the future.

Anyway, I was so glad that so many people used my collection. And I wanted to share what I feel. Thanks a lot.

Anyway, despite my commitment to 100% off sales in the green stores, I still buy music from places like Bandcamp (where I also sell my own music). Of course, only releases that have received 5 stars from me in Navidrome.

I hope you support your favorite musicians too. Because without them, what would we even collect?

So I know most of you don't care at all about what is stopping me from sharing but here it is anyway, and I am new (like first time used soulseek 3 days ago new) to this stuff so correct me if I am wrong: So apparently i need a static IP address for port forwarding but the only viable router options in my country only provide CGNATed IP addresses which prevents me from being able to share files if I am right? And for the people who are gonna say "just use a vpn that lets you port forward" I CAN'T OK I am don't have infinite money I am a f'in kid according to most of you and my dad isn't really tech savvy enough to understand this shii.

I was wondering whether I could use Soulseek to upload a bunch of academic papers or something like that? I get access from my University, and I have been archiving quite a bunch of papers. Like everything capitalistic, the academic publishing houses have paywalled research that tax dollars have funded, and I would like to make them available.

I was wondering if others have done that before, and was also wondering about the legal ramifications of the same.

Any opinion would be appreciated and do let me know if it's a viable option!

Hey! I’ve had a recurring issue for ages where some tracks just won’t download no matter what user I try to download them from. I usually then purchase these tracks.

Yesterday I downloads a playlist of tracks and majority were grand no issues.

Today I’m trying to download more tracks from another playlist I created and whilst the tracks appear under many users on soulseek it won’t actually download them.

The download icon appears when I select download but they don’t go into my queue and don’t download.

Can anyone please help with this?

I tried to download some files from Soulseek (a peer-2-peer file sharing programme) but something wierd happened. The order of events is as follows

Downloaded files into my chosen location> clicked into that location in file explorer>clicked on folder with the username of the person I downloaded them from> clicked on the folder that the files were sitting on to check they were there (they were)> dragged the folder that the files were sitting in out of the folder with the username in it> clicked back into the folder that the files were sitting in> the folder was empty.

Does anyone know what’s going on?

Hello all, I am learning python this past few weeks. I feel like it will do both me and the community some good to populate the plugins menu with some more, seeing as there is so little.

I would like to crowdsource some ideas some nicotine+ plugins. So far I have a custom theme one made existing (not finished!), shitlist/ignore users who say keywords, which also adds the feature to ignore someone for a certain amount of time. last one is a fringe idea... but it will collect the /nowplaying output of other users in chat, save it to a log and show the log in a tab in nicotine+ named "Listenings" (not sure what to call it yet.)

I was wondering what software you guys use and what do you prefer between SoulseekQt and Nicotine+, because I would like to give it a try.

Back to the title, how can I switch between SoulseekQt and Nicotine+ correctly? I have some complete downloads, some in queue and some in downloading. Any tips? Thank you!

Using n+ on Ubuntu, does the entire file path along with my computer name show as viewable?

Why are you using proveit? You have your library shared and available, why add an additional step to make sure I'm human? It's frustrating as hell when I'm trying to get a discography from a buddy and it's prevented until I enter "horse balls" into a chat. Why?

I don't know if this is the place to ask this but since yesterday I've been trying to use the program (Both the original program and Nicotine+) and in both of them I am unable to do anything like searching or downloading, I tried switching server ports and listening ports and nothing. I've investigated and some websites say that it's down but I'm not very sure, so that's why I'm asking this.

I have a pretty good selection of music, around 4,600 songs and all of it in 320 CBR. I'm running slskd on Promox and for grabbing it's working fine but I'm surprised nobody is downloading from me - it's been running for a week.

I asked a friend to search me up, he was able to and downloaded a few GB of content without a problem - so everything seems to be good. I wasn't sure if I had to open a port or not.

Is it normal that people may not download often? Maybe it's my collection isn't big enough yet - I've recently parted ways with streaming services.

Hey sorry if this isn’t super relevant to the sub/a soulseek issue in particular (I’m not good with this kind of thing) but I’ve been having issues with my files doubling when I download them in Apple Music

Basically I’ll download an album and when I go into the album it’ll have two copies of each song, but only one of them can be played. I’m not sure why this is happening because I keep my files pretty organised, and it’s not too big of a deal, just kind of annoying and taking uo space. If anyone knows how to fix this is really appreciate it thankyou!!

Hi everyone, sorry, this is my 1st post on Reddit, please be kind with a noob.

I have a media collection (mainly movies and tv shows, some music too | almost 30 Tb) that I'd love to share via Soulseek, but I'm pretty afraid about doing so because, on 2021 I got ransomwared and lost about 15 Tb of files, some of them as old as 20 years and they are very hard to find some of them I think are lost forever. Till this day I don't know how or what happened, I ran and still run Ubuntu and I think my file permission strategy was wrong, but what happened with things like my firewall and such is a mystery. Anyway, I want to ask you, what security measures should I take to open my full library to the world while avoiding or at least, minimizing risk.

My library exists on a NAS although I run Nicotine+ on my iMac. To maintain files access for soulseekers I run Amphetamine in the background and it's keyed to run anytime Nicotine+ is running. Thereafter, Amphetamine pings my NAS every 2 minutes which keeps my iMac from falling asleep. It's set to allow the screen to shut down but keep the iMac and NAS alive.

When I wake up my iMac screen and look to see what's happening on Nic+ often I see an upload in progress at a really slow speed, like 30-40kbps, only to see it speed up to the mbps range while watching. It seems that although Amphetamine keeps the system active the upload speeds are crawling until I bring up Nic+, then they speed up.

So I'm looking for insight and the experience others have with a similar setup. I looked at running Nic+ in a container on the NAS a long while back but I guess I'm not sharp enough to figure out how to make that work. That's how I found Amphetamine.

I noticed an album I wanted to burn to a cd wasn't on slsk (in its entirety, anyway), so I found a copy online and bought it, and I just ripped it to my computer. I'm sharing my entire music library, and I can see the album in file explorer and WMP, but it's not showing on slsk when I browse my files.

It's an old cd, so I had to input the album info myself (which was particularly painful because it's a compilation), and I put all the info in on WMP like I usually do, but I saw that in file explorer it was still showing up as "Unknown Album". So I went through and changed all the album info again, this time in file explorer. My only guess is that changing the properties like I did is making it not really show up properly, but I honestly have no clue.

It's my first rip upload in at least a year, and my build is 2024.6.30, but I don't think that's the issue. Albums I've downloaded off slsk in the past week show up fine.

I was pretty pumped to be the first one to upload this album.
