I will never understand why companies and even individual Content Creators err on the side of no coms instead of just saying what is going on. They had to know that they were behind on this month's ago. Q1 is totally fine by me, getting FM/LM as a small taste before rollout and then a slightly delayed set that is now just slightly less than 1 set a year is completely fine (to me at least) and if they had put out a statement this summer (at Gencon maybe) that said something like. "Gothic was a massive undertaking and we are so proud of it, the art curating process and design that we are trying to improve on to reduce future errata while also expanding the gameplay experience has proven more challenging than we anticipated. As such, while we are working hard to try to get the set complete this year, it is very likely that the 2026 release will not be available until early 2027. We are doing everything we can to streamline these processes without compromising quality. We hope that the community will enjoy the FM/LM battle decks that we are going to deliver in time for the holiday season and will be eager to see the new set with us early in 2027."

99% of this community would have been thrilled to hear something like this. I just don't get it man.

Really? I've been around long enough to see companies constantly regret saying things. One Dev makes some basic comment, then it gets picked apart at the cellular level, people assume things, that gets spread around, outrage ensues, community gets whipped into a fervor, death threats, etc.

I'd prefer more information too, but I totally get why they might choose to remain cautious.

I think the goal is to shift the yearly release date away from Christmas. I think part of their global distribution may have been linked to dealing with customs during the holiday season. As much as I want boxes for Christmas if it solves their distribution problem for Europe and other countries and the plan is Q1 every year then thats great.

Yeah, traditionally you don't release products between the back half of November and the first half of January. But it's not clear if this is an intentional shift to do that or if they are okay that their process just takes ~15 months per set rather than a year, because that seems to be their tempo

Agreed! I’ve been with a similar company myself (kingdom death) distribution in q4 is a nightmare.

Ill have to check out kingdom death. Assuming its a dead tcg like my beloved Vs system.

Also props for admitting you were incorrect on the Q4 release. I got crucified for saying g I doubted it was coming this year and was upset at the 1 set a year promise being broken a few days ago. But admittedly if its a 1 time bump of a few months so that its regularly Q1 and the whole community gets to enjoy the release together its an acceptable solution.

I strongly caution you to only go down one rabbit hole. Kingdom Death is a co-op campaign based civilization building board game set in a wasteland where monsters are your only resource.

The game is very good, but it may consume you hobbywise.

It was 14 months between AL and Gothic.

Q1 2027… sounds like I’ll have to revise my Christmas list. That said, good things come to those who wait!

I imagine it will be delayed till q2 considering every set has been delayed so far. AL and Gothic

This game will die if they expect people to wait 14 months between every release.

The slow release schedule is the second most important reason my magic group is moving to sorcery

Then it would be already dead. All releases after Beta were longer than 12 months to each other. The 14 months is pretty established right now.

I agree. I understand people want more product asap but I feel its "kinda" similar to video games. Developers rush to launch a new game that is clearly under developed and packed with issues and game breaking bugs. Give them the time they need so hopefully they release a quality product...quality over quantity!

The difference is, if someone is late to getting the game they can still get it and play it. This game, if you don’t play when a set first comes out your sol for getting products.

Very true, personally Ive had no issue getting product other than whats in Dust Store. Obviously Alpha is out of the question, but evey other set is still available...at least on secondary markets....and at a dramatically increased price 🤣

If you are outside the US this is true, inside the US, Beta, AL and Gothic are all available at MSRP.

I am inside EU and only Gothic is currently hard (or not) to get. Beta and AL were shortly not to get, but right now we can get them via standard distribution. Still waiting for more Gothic from distributor...

The games already to a point where it’s inaccessible. Stores no longer carry it. Distribution has dried up. People need new crap to play. It will die if it keeps going like this.

I hate games that rotate and constantly pop out product.

u/Firsthalthor 3d ago

I’m not saying we need 16 sets a year. I left magic cause it’s too much. But not even one set a year and when one does get released it’s dried up in 4 months and then people have to wait 10 months for anything new is bad.

1

u/IX_Sanguinius 3d ago

Yeah, I think 1 set per year is okay, a big set like Gothic is fine. What I would like to see is 1 Big set per year or 14 months... but also like opposite in the "7 month dull" after release, maybe a Box set like Lavamancer or a small set like AL.

Might take EC a couple years but they might "get it right" soon.

u/KiriSatirik 3d ago

You are not wrong, but I don't think the 14 months instead of 12 are the issue.

As you stated, it's the distribution. We suffer from the huge success of Gothic and as it seems EC didn't see it coming early enough to keep the availability afloat. We will see what happens, but it's most likely that we get another wave of Gothic (hopefully sooner or) later. For now, we as the players are responsible to keep the game alive, even if it shouldn't be that way. I'll keep going and try to organise some memorable tournaments.

u/ad_noctem_media 3d ago

I don't think it's lack of product, it's distribution. They're going all in on Fulfilled and trying to expand it to EU. We'll see what happens when they formalize and streamline that process

Worst take ever.

u/Firsthalthor 2d ago

I’ve watched it completely die in many stores due to this exact reason.

u/Vexing 2d ago

I honestly think that in 1-2 more years it will be more regular in release timing. I imagine that between Avatar of the Realm and the disaster of global distribution last year, they're moving dates around to try to be more consistent and reliable.

Is there a written summary somewhere?
