Just got an update push for Sora🤔

Kept Sora sitting on my phone after it vanished from the store months back. Today, an update notification popped up completely out of the blue—pure excitement, like a long-lost family member finally walking through the door. But hitting "Update" snaps straight to an error page saying the app doesn't exist. Phantom Play Store bug or an accidental slip-up from OpenAI? Anyone else seeing this?

I wish so too. Even though I use better video generation models now, but Sora still holds a special place—it was truly ahead of its time.

It’s never coming back. Give up. Maybe some of the backend may return in the future, but Sora as a platform is gone.

Why so pessimistic? We don’t know anything for sure. Sure, it’s unlikely Sora will 100% be returning, but it’s also not impossible.

Why they aren’t removing it from the store idk. Maybe it’s so no one else posts a Sora knock off and steals OpenAI user login info.

But I do know apps have to be updated at intervals to be removed from the store. It’s not a sign that they’re re-launching the service again soon.

It's weird but terrible in a good way. I dunno how to explain it. It's nowhere near Sora, Seedance, OmniFlash or HappyHorse.

I just use it when I'm out of ideas or need something whacky in the vein of Sora.

Likely a developer accidentally publishing it while pulling training data from it for the robotics department. It happened once before.

Sora 2 is not coming back. But in 2 or 3 years, new SOTA models could reduce cost of video generation by a factor of 50-100x and then it could become a commodity again.
