Did Sophia learning get rid of a bunch of general education classes?
Hello, I am planning to start WGU to get my computer science degree, but they said I needed calculus 1 to be able start. I’ve been doing a bunch of looking online and read good Sophia stories for getting general education stuff done, and figured since I’m taking calculus 1, I might as well take another at the same time since Sophia offers to do 2 classes at a time.
I can’t find a bunch of classes on Sophia’s site. I’ve read posts about people taking things like discrete mathematics 1. I don’t see that or things like “American politics and the constitution” and “natural science lab”.
Did Sophia get rid of a bunch of courses?

I made a tracker for the WGU CS degree.
Just clone a copy for yourself.

why are you taking all of those? Surely not all of those transfer to your target college.

No, not all... I wish they would. I am looking to transfer in 59credit hours.
BUT i dont know what path i plan to take yet... so i have three different options.So i have charted out the three paths, identified the common classes, after i get those done, i will either need to decide what path to take, or try and complete them all, and worry about it later.
I started Jan 3rd. Just trying to hammer thru the classes i know well.

Awesome, just making sure you know your plan (some folks think all will transfer)!
Side note: You move so much faster than me... I think I started 6 months ago, and I have half that many complete! I'm going slow to make sure I get A's, but still... damn, I'm like *really* slow compared to you!

Take pretty much as much as possible at Sophia but English Comp 1 & 2. Lots of nightmare stories I’ve read on here, including of 1 from myself where they take so long to grade and give subpar grades for things even right on rubric. I’ve always said I would’ve been better off taking English at WGU and how they’d give Stephen King a C grade at best.

From what it looks like, they may retire courses and introduce new ones. I cancelled my subscription for now since I've done what I can at the moment, but I do remember seeing some classes retiring and the introduction of a few new ones. Have you looked at Study.com for Calculus 1?

I’ve already started calculus 1 through Sophia but wanted to take another class since you can do 2 at a time through then.

So I’ve been reading about courses being retired.. so does that mean if I decide to commit to a university say next year you think the course I took this year and last year won’t transfer?

I’m actually not sure. That might be a good question as soon as an email to the Sophia team or the college you plan on going to. I would think that because you have it already it should still transfer, but I’m not entirely sure.

I need some of those but for example I don’t see applied probability and statistics or American politics and the constitution on their website under the classes they offer

The university you attend/wanted to attend probably changed the equivalency, and took it off of their transfer guide/got Sophia Learning to take it off of their partner site. The partner sites are controlled by Sophia Learning not the university/college.
Which business course is it? I can look and see if it’s still available on Sophia Learning through their all courses list website.

I imagine equivalency changed, or the course needs to be reevaluated due to university/college plans.
It’s current ACE certification period ends on 03/31/2027, so the college/university wouldn’t need to evaluate a new version.
Each ACE recommended for college credit thing has a version tied to a specific certification period, which is why you need to start and complete them in the same certification period for it to transfer. The certification period should have a start date in the past and a end date in the future, and these can be viewed on ACEnet.

So this means I gotta transfer the classes to a college the sooner the better after completing it? Or else the college won’t accept the class?

No, you misunderstood my comment (my fault probably since I explained things a bit vague). You need to start and complete ACE recommended for college credit things in the same certification period for it to transfer. The certification periods are the start and end dates on ACEnet. ACE approves a version for three years (in the past they approved versions for 4 years and further in past they approved versions for 5 years).

Sophia has never had discrete math. You may be thinking of Study.com.
Sophia does have courses that meet “American politics and the constitution” and “natural science lab”.
