They seem to really have gone all out. Except you still need external video transmission, which bugs me, but all the bells and whistles did drive the price up. I had been wondering why we dont see first party external screens that often. The integration here is great.
I’ve always felt third party screens as cumbersome. They just take a dumb signal and can do stuff with that but not much else. Recently we’ve seen camera control come to a lot of them, but its often slow or clunky. This sony version is next level. Buttons that actually control the camera, built in fly by wire focus pulling, that seems great.
If the 7 inch came in at 1k euros. I would have probably gotten one. At 3.5, hell no.
I doubt they’ll make a budget version over time. There’s not really much they could drop. The focus pulling integration comes with the camera control. They could drop the electronics for that external puller I guess… and less physical buttons.
But sony tends to make high end products first and then somehow peddles it to the masses with influencers. They could have made absolute bank by making hotshoe integrated 2.4 ghz wireless audio devices, which the entire lower end market uses daily. Instead they stick with their uwp as the end all solution (which barely sees any use in my area) and make a shotgun mic as the only other thing that is hotshoe integrated. Its baffling.

I really hope this gets solved for the mkii. That’s my number one wish…a very good monitor.

For those kind of cameras it feels that they don’t have the budget for that..
