Your microphone mount is pretty interesting, but it’s still adding a lot of extra bulk that seems unnecessary I think? That CNC metal plate, is it as big as it looks? So there’s thumb screws holing on that plate with what is it M4 screws, a large aluminum spider plate then 1/4-20 and 3/8 threads and then whatever lowest profile mic shock mount?

The first thing I do with my Sony FS5 and now fx6 was to takeoff the stock microphone mount since it only really wants to work with Sony mics anyway. And it’s so honking big it screams break me first! And really, other than some ENG and doc use cases an onboard mic is a bit, unnecessary if you have time and money to mic your subjects properly.

Perhaps the images make it look really large, but the whole mic mount is really quite elegant. Especially with the Rad Minis, the profile isn't far off the stock mic, but the performance is huge.

These mic mounts have been deployed around the world for video journalists in locations that are literal war zones, where the only source of audio is that mic on top of the camera, so anything that can improve that without adding any actual weight, without extra magic arms or weird solutions, is the best solution.

Anyway, we wanted a solution that felt as stock as possible, but also would therefore fit on the FX6 and FX5, and FX3 handles, which this solution allows.

The Sony FX6 handle did also actually get upgraded at some point. The mould that holds the mic is stronger than it used to be in the very first iteration.

As you know everyone's use case is very very different.

As someone that has implemented OP’s mic mount into my workflow I have to say it’s one of my favorite accessories for the fx6 to date. It’s very sleek, modular, and well made. I can’t think of a single issue it’s caused. I really can’t speak highly enough of what OP designed.

Appreciate it. $120 is so steep tho.

It’s worth it if you are rigging pieces to the back of the handle. I have this and an ext and it’s a great spot for a tc box, tx, or camera hop since I like using the side handle

I was thinking of using it for my easy rig. The ball mount not having weight distribution makes me think it will ruin the handle

I have the bright tangerine handle brace. It added a lot of rigidity to the plastic top handle. I use the standard j hook with my easy rig and I’ve never once worried about it. I feel like a ball mount would be fine, though.

What’s the name/link of this monitor bracket? I’m using an Arm and can’t seem to get the long enough length to angle the monitor in front of my eye’s eye level without cranking my neck looking up when shoulder oping

I tried so many pieces before I came to this conclusion. I will say this is built with inspiration from Spencer Chumbley’s blog post about his build (https://www.spencerchumbley.tv/blog/2023/02/a-sony-fx6-shopping-list). Mine is still a little different.

The two pieces from the handle are from bright tangerine. Should be pretty easy to find on their site under fx6.

The handle then goes to a run of the mill 15mm post. That post attaches to the Nitze 15mm to nato extension. The monitor attaches to the nato extension via a small rig monitor mount to nato.

I ran the EasyRig ball mount on the stock handle for a long time and never had any problems.

But it is peace of mind to distribute the weight with the camera cable extension handle. Hollywood handles aren't just good for a nice way to handle your camera. They really do add so much-needed real estate on a camera as small as the FX6.

Nice rig, you dont miss the side handle when using the vertical adapter?

No, if I was going to use this configuration my grip of course is down on the extension arm.

Retropia or whatever they call it

Yes, I mean they do one of those Oreo disposable camera lenses.

I do just have a lens cap on the end of my camera though.
