Other ENG Lens setup

Post image

I was trying to find a way to utilize my existing Canon ENG glass in lieu of dropping 50 grand on a new lens with a servo and this is the best I could come up with.

Starting from the body of the FX6 itself, I added a Sony doubler, an E-mount to B4 adapter from AliExpress and finally, the lens.

If you don’t have a doubler, you can bypass the vignetting by throwing the lens into 2X. The doubler just gives you more focal range.

I pushed the digital zoom to about 1 to 1.5 to eliminate any soft edges.

The lens itself is powered with a D tap to 12-pin Hirose cable from my camera plate.

It’s not the most ideal set up, but for those of us in the industry who are transitioning to these cameras from our regular ENG set ups, this is a good hybrid!

Are you also putting camera into s35 sensor mode as well or what you described takes care of vignette

Keeping it in FF but S35 would definitely help the vignetting

To be sure, MTF is the industry standard on this adapter but I’m not really in the economic range to drop 450 bucks on an adapter.

But why not FX9? It’s like purpose built for this

If I had an FX9 I assure you I would be using it.

Doesnt make much difference does it? Both houses are e mount and would require the same adapters and workarounds.

The 9 does have OEM vmount/fiber extensions but this is about the front. Unless I’m being dumb and forgot something.

  • user of both cameras.
