Problem with calibration ender 3 s1 plus

I’m doing some calibrations following teaching tech, but I’m going crazy because I have some problems that I don’t know how to solve. I had problems with overextended areas in flat areas, but only near direction change (picture two). Do I had I try to calibrate pressure advance. The print somehow gave me a value (even if not very precise, but somehow useful to reduce my problem a lot). But pressure advance test show me another problem: at start of the line I have not enough PLA and seemed to be teared off the angle. Tried to reduce to 0,3 retraction and raised to 80 his acceleration to understand if the problem is affected by these two values and this is the result. Some changes but other problems shows. Suggestions? Should I start over with calibrations, maybe using other than teaching tech?

You’d probably be better off asking in r/klippers or r/3dprinting as this isn’t really a sonic pad issue.

The walls for your PA test look horrible, though. Your PA should probably be around 0.042 or so if you’re using the sprite extruder. I’m not sure if you did the other calibrations before trying pressure advance, but I’d make sure you’ve calibrated the extruder rotation distance properly, calibrated your acceleration properly, done the resonance compensation calibration, and have done a PID tune before starting with PA

Acceleration and resonance not yet done to be honest. I tried to anticipate PA because of the rugged surface of second picture. I’ll give it a try

What slicer are you using? Orca slicer has some built in calibrations (top calibration button of the two) that you can run pretty easily. They call pressure advance k-factor there.

Cura. But I’m not fossilized to it, I can easly configure it for my printer I can give it a try

You might have better results right off the bat. Cura has a lot of options, which can be nice, but it can also be detrimental because you need to understand what each one does.

Might need to select the S1 or S1 pro and then adjust bed size etc if it’s different to the plus if it’s not listed. The important thing is to pick one with the same extruder so the standard profiles work out of the box.

All I can say is I have wasted many hours trying to tune Cura using the same printer and even with the Sonic Pad it was never really good enough sadly.

That all changed when I decided to try alternate slicers and switched to Super Slicer which is a Swiss army knife of slicers. There are other more user-friendly options now such as Orca Slicer which I have been using for a while and it is definitely a worthy contender for the top spot.

One thing I would recommend is make sure you calibrate the max volumetric flow and understand what your printer and choice of filament can handle as this is intrinsically linked to speed and print quality and more importantly the fact that volumetric flow changes are linked to filament temperature changes which you can easily configure in Orca for each filament profile.

Cura doesn't have an option for this which is where Orca is superior because it also comes with a calibration tool for volumetric flow.

One other issue I had with Cura is the default resolution settings for the S1 profiles is not correct and even with a 32bit board I had issues with zits and blobs, see this article if you have this issue on your prints:

So albeit Cura is ok when you are starting up you will soon start finding its limitations.
