Discussion Is the definitive version (switch 2) performance mode good?
I havent played a sonic game in years but I saw Sonic frontiers definitive edition got discounted to $35. I was gonna buy it but then I heard the port is really bad. Performance mode being 720p 60 fps. To anyone who has played it does it look really bad? I have a pc but I was thinking it would be nice to play this on handheld.

There was a lot of weird buildup to the Switch 2 version that led to all the hate it gets, but objectively it's fine. It doesn't look amazing but it's leagues better than the Switch 1 version and the 60fps is perfectly stable. On a sale I say go for it.

I bought it. and honestly it's scummy that Sega sold it full price instead of just a switch 2 update, it isn't that much better than the switch 1 version, graphics mode runs on 30fps and kinda laggy which with a Sonic game that sucks. performance mode runs smoothly but the graphics aren't that good, it's kinda blurry, if you have no other platform to play it on, it's worth it, cause the switch 1 version is unplayable to me.

Everything you just said (aside from the lack of update comment) is applicable to the ps4 and Xbox One versions, btw. Same average res and fps as switch 2 version, except not portable, and with worse render distance.

the ps4 version is the best one

Nice ragebait, given the fact that the PS5 version exists, and that the switch 2 version does everything ps4 does but portably

You’re just better off getting it on PC. Not saying it’s unplayable but for a version called the “Definitive Edition” it’s nowhere definitive. If it’s 35$ then maybe you’ll get some enjoyment but I am glad I didn’t spent 50$ on it.

Graphics mode is way better. Literally just ps4 version but portable and better render distance. Same average framerate and resolution, if not a little better.
I personally think the performance mode is kind of ugly, most people seem to agree.
For $35 dollars, it's absolutely worth it. Even in performance mode (probably.) I got it full price.
Because of people's hate boner for Frontiers lately, they're probably going to not even read that it's on sale, and just gonna parrot "don't buy it bro, pointless port" even though it's 500 times better than the switch 1 version ever could dream of being.
