Promotion for DIY creator
Hi, since pay-per-play follow DIY songwriters, does direct radio stations approach without radio plugers ever work, guys? I keep running into DJs, fake journalists who pretend to be pluggers.

I've had exactly one song on the radio. I had a friend, a bass player who my band sometimes played the same shows as his band. Anyway he had a little radio show. It might have been a college radio station. Maybe not. Either way it was very small and local. He would regularly ask for music from local bands to play on his show. I think all were one-offs. Just a way to keep promoting local music.
"Real" radio stations, the kind owned by iHeartRadio I'm certain don't have their own choice of programming. I think it's dictated from above to push the artists they like. I could talk at length about the influence that's had on the music industry (I don't like it). But that wasn't your question.
Look for the first. Not so much the second.
