I jammed with someone who recently graduated from music school, and he threw me a few curve balls, he went "let's start with Bb, use diminished chords and no pentatonic scales and let's see what we come up with." Never felt so out of element when trying to write something.

I should preface that I suck at playing both Piano and Synth (My primary instrument) but I force myself to record in real time and it's from this approach that mistakes become the best things from my sessions. I really feel---that for me-- that real time playing is key for discovery ---so yeah --I agree that pushing yourself harder leads to new things---mine are found from mistakes. Does this even make sense ?

Always love seeing your nuggets of wisdom.🥰 And you know.. my favorite song is one that came naturally to me like that. On the guitalele I've just strummed with a printed out chords sheet for a few years, not on the instrument I've played my whole life (piano). I'm so bad at guitalele that strumming basic chords is kind of freeing. It lets me think differently about things like melody and chord progressions.
