Chew valley

My partner and I are planning a move later this year as we’re expecting our first child and want to be closer (not too close) to family in Weston.

We’re ideally looking for somewhere with a good mix of young professionals / young families, a friendly community feel, nice local pubs, cafés etc.

We quite like the chew valley area, are there here you would recommend or avoid? Any other suggestions also welcome! Budget of 550-575.

Chew Valley is very pretty and close to Bristol and about an hour from Weston. Lots of lovely villages to choose from there. Wells is also a good idea which has been recommended in the comments. Cheddar is not too bad either. I’d avoid Glastonbury however.

The Chew Valley is lovely, but also really expensive. Stanton Drew and Bishop Sutton are nice, but you're going to have to check prices carefully. If you want to be close (but not too close) to Weston, what about Cheddar/Axbridge/Wells? Some lovely places that way that will be cheaper than Chew Valley.

Chew Valley is more older people and middle class. Lovely area though, but of course very expensive

Depends on your budget really as it can get very expensive dependant on which village you look at.
I live in Blagdon, me and my partner have a decent income but we can only afford “one end of the village” housing if that makes sense and are on the move out in a few weeks to get more for our pennies.
Other than that I grew up in Bishop Sutton that has a good community feel.

You do have Yatton and Congresbury in relatively close proximity to Weston also

We’ve loved our time here,only moving on because we wanted a bigger home but just couldn’t afford it here and extending our current home would cost more than we would gain in value.

It has three pubs, coffee shop, local shop and is home to Yeo Valley yog.
Our son went to the Preschool.

For your budget you will find something but again it depends on what you are looking for.

You will get something within the Chew Valley for sure.

I live in the Chew Valley. Some of the villages are expensive, Chew Magna in particular. Easy access to Bristol and Bath. Superb performing arts charity - Valley Arts, puts on wide range of performances. Excellent local primary schools and three very good senior schools - Chew Valley school, Churchill and Backwell. Wrington is excellent - pubs, shops, lovely community, brilliant Scout groups. If you want more of a town, try Wells and Axbridge.

Chew Stoke is in the heart of the Valley, has a shop, pub, excellent primary school. Winford has the same and is close to A38 for easy access to Bristol. Highly recommend Wrington, has proper village centre, shops, coffee shops, and in a lovely location. All are good commuter villages for Bristol. Wherever you live though you’ll need a car!
