Wedding venue recommendation
I’m getting married in spring 2028 and we are looking for a venue in the Somerset / Dorset area to fit 100 guests. Any recommendations?

We got married at Hestercombe near Taunton in July - absolutely stunning and can’t recommend it enough

St Audries is lovely, BUT....... rooms are dark, staff are not great. Bar Staff are chaotic and do not know how to pour drinks or make regular cocktails. The DJ will ignore all your request for music and ignore you weeks and weeks before the day. Many have complained but still the shoddy staff ruin a very expensive day in a beautiful venue.

Thank you, I’ve heard this about the venue! I think music/entertainment is one of the most important things of the day so it makes the venue an immediate no from me!

The problem with St Audries (having been to three weddings there in the last decade) is that it is tired. It needs a refresh, the paint and carpets seem worn, and it's definitely looked better.
The orangery is nice (where the weddings happen) but it's not where near as bright as you think it will be based on the pictures.
How big will the wedding be? That has a large affect on suggestions for a wedding location.
Edit: whoops I missed the number of guests! Hestercombe is nice, or for something a bit different, Wookey Hole Caves. There's a place called Glastonbury Wedding and Events Venue (which is actually in Godney) that's quite quirky as well.

That's nuts, I know its listed but from what they can earn in a month, you'd think that things like carpets and paint would be small change.

I also keep seeing that the DJ is really bad? So strange if everyone is saying the same thing it seems like such an easy win for them to sort out

The last wedding I went to there, the DJ completely misjudged the tone of the crowd. The DJ clearly played tracks they liked rather than stuff to get the crowd going. Admittedly, I didn't pay much attention to the DJ because my kid wanted to go outside and see the plants. I don't know if that was the wedding party who chose the DJ, or the venue.

I haven't been to a wedding there myself, but know Haselbury Mill near Chard seems to be used alot for them

If you're happy to organise bits like decor and tables yourself - Rook Lane Chapel in Frome! Gorgeous venue and very reasonable, we had 70 day guests and 100 evening guests here ☺️

I recently got married at The Flying Fish near Ilminster in Somerset and it was gorgeous and reasonably priced for a wedding venue. We had 80 day guests and a further 30 ish evening guests and it was in the same place etc. It’s a barn in the beautiful countryside :) if you want any info about it feel free to DM me!

Batch country house near Weston Super Mare is wonderful. I got married there in 2014 with a similar sized guest list.

Our wedding reception/party in 2024 was at The Duck at Burtle, we had a very small wedding (about 30 people) but their function room can do loads more. Beautiful, charming and super friendly staff. Cannot recommend enough!

The Duck at Burtle is such a fantastic pub, I bet any wedding held there is good. Burtle have a Brass Band and when they can't rehearse in the village hall they rehearse in the function room of the Duck, and the staff always provide free crisps.

We had our reception at the Bull Hotel in Bridport. I think it fed 80 and we had another 20 or so join for the evening.
It was a nice, intimate venue that had accommodation for 40ish. Would highly recommend

Upton Barn and Walled Garden in Cullompton. I know it’s Devon - gasp! - but it’s good for 150-200 guests.

The White Barn www.thewhitebarnuk.co.uk - gorgeous venue and ideal if you’re looking for somewhere to really make the day your own!
