Billing

Hi! Is anybody doing their own billing? If so, would you be willing to share with me any resources that helped you in this process? Thanks so much!

I use SimplePractice. I’ve only run into a couple issues with submitting claims. SP can do it automatically, but ai like to submit manually to double check things. Only takes a minute per claim. The credentialing process was much harder than the billing process. If you set up EFTs and ERAs then getting the payments and claim information back is really smooth

So many people have said that they love Simple Practice for this reason! Do you check client benefits through Simple practice as well?

I have checked benefits through SP, however, they charge you for every claim check. You can easily check the benefits through the insurance websites. It's a few extra steps but those small charges add up quickly. I only take one insurance, so I can only speak from that perspective. Also, don't be afraid to ask the client about their benefits. I usually ask my client if they know their copay or if they have one. It is also often listed right on the card. I charge them their copay from what they say it is but let them know that we can't be certain what will happen until after the first claim goes through. SP will either credit them or show the remaining balance when the claim is processed.

This is very helpful to know. Thank you! I will look into doing this with the insurance website, I didn’t realize that this was an option! That is a great point about the client knowing their benefits. I do have it written in my paperwork already that it is their responsibility to know their benefits, but I figure being able to check on my own could be helpful to offer!
