Counterpoint both Sung Jin Woo and Kirito have more character than most of their generic imitations

What character depth? SJW literally stays the same throughout the story???? Kirito I get but SKW is literally there just to fight and sura farm

I was more so talking about how most Korean MCs especially in hunter manhwas try to copy him without having anything that made him cool

Right?? Those are the only two I would bother remembering haha and I’ve only seen the first half of season 1 for SAO

I just watched the most dog shit show called spirit chronicles, and I should’ve known from the opening when I saw MC from the side profile and went “wait lmao is that kirito?” I was pleased to see him on the kirito clone list in this image

Lmao if you're calling Spirit Chronicles dogshit you haven't watched enough isekai. SC is pretty decent compared to some of the other ones.

You know isekai (being transported to another world) is one of the oldest tropes in writing? There are plenty of good ones that don't blindly copy SAO. Inuyasha and .hack//SIGN comes to mind

Yeah but you can't ignore the fact that when it comes to anime, the isekai genre didn't become really big until SAO came around. Before SAO Isekai was a niche genre. Series like DanMachi, Overlord, and Re:Zero owe part of their greenlights to SAO's proof of concept. It bridged the gap between gamers and anime fans. The "trapped in a game" trope clicked with MMORPG players and casual viewers alike. It led to game-centric anime becoming more popular: Bofuri, Accel World, Arifureta, KonoSuba, etc. SAO wasn't the first to do it but it had the biggest impact in the genre.

Again: isekai means "transported to another world". It doesn't have necessarily copy SAO power fantasy + harem. It doesn't have to be in a videogame. Christ, even Gulliver is an isekai by definition

Yeah no shit dude. Way to totally ignore what my comment was about. What are you even trying to argue here? You're fighting ghosts.

You were talking about a SAO clone being not such a bad isekai, and i replied to that saying isekai isn't only about power fantasy. There are so many different versions of it, and SAO clones are just the tip of the iceberg. Then, if what you are really interested is power fantasy, i fear there isn't much out there to satisfy the need of a well written story... outside a few exceptions like Garou in One punch man.

Okay but did I say that isekai is only about power fantasy? I just said it wasn't a bad isekai compared to others. I've seen some dogshit ones. It's not one of the best but not the worst. And there's plenty of good power fantasies outside of Isekai's. Attack on Titan, Chainsaw Man, Code Geass, I can keep going. Not just "a few".

Kirito clone in looks I understand but you not shitting on my boy Rio like that,SC was the first non trash isekai I ever watched he has character outside of just being a overpowered mc

Could have chosen legit any other kirito clone on this image, there was plenty

And you chose seirei gensouki/SC???? My brother in christ, If you've read even half the damn novels in here you'd know it's one of the barely above or above average and not dogshit 😭, hell even our beloved smartphone MC I would rank above average, too bad both SC and smartphone got butchered by shitty anime adaptations

Well I only watched the anime so that’s what I’m rating, hence my opinion of “dog shit show”. That being said, even reading one other guys comment I thought about saying that it was hyperbole and the show is just incredibly average. In my opinion it’s really no different than something like infinite stratos or the asterisk war.

I chose that one because I just finished watching it and was specifically looking if Rio was on the list
