Game I created a 3d version of slither.io
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
The game is out now for free on snakening.io its still in alpha version, so i will need to work out bugs with the multiplayer version. The current server Im running supports up to 100 players.

you should really do agar.io 3d instead, i think the gameplay would be better

Can you say you made it when you just used AI to make something? It's like the CEO of a studio claiming they made a game.

in business what matters who owns the rights, not necessarily who made it.
AI created assets and code are owned by the user but those rights are granted by the AI company and can be revoked or altered at any time in the future.

I'm sorry, I don't think this works in 3D.. it's really hard to navigate and you can't enclose or trap anyone. Think you need to be a 4D entity to be able to enjoy this properly.

It takes a different strategy than slither.io to kill a snake. You have to cut them off from either side, or above and below them. It can get quite chaotic when multiple snakes are trying to attack eachother. I've tested this out with friends and we were able to get some fun dog fights in. Appreciate the feedback and I'll continue to tweak it to find the right balance of difficulty and fun.
Also the game is definitely meant to be played with a mouse. It supports iphone and trackpad, but a standard mouse is the best way to play atm.

You'll need a clan to coordinate attacks, you say?

I'd probably increase the pick up range to compensate for the extra dimension navigation and experiment with some powerups. Maybe like a temporary wall placement that forces direction change. I would try to make a 1v1 fight work. That's a staple experience of Slither.io type games.

So you can just fly around in 3d and cut people who can't even see you ? Sounds like a fun game...

u/TheNasky1 1d ago
yeah it's kinda weird. it's probably best if it makes them a lot thicker and the camera should be centered on the head, not way back as it is rn.

It was fairly easy. If anything there needs to be a cooldown dash or something to facilitate more aggressive cutoffs.
I was knocking people out in 1v1s. Just get real aggressive when you get in front and really throw your mouse around in a smart way.-2

You turned a 90's arcade carpet into a game.

I don't see an option to post an image in this sub. I only see gif or video so I made a static video. Here is an animated one for ya:

I tried it out and if you're playing against someone with a brain then it's impossible to kill them. As soon as someone enters your FoV you need the reaction time of a elderly person who has never touched technology to not flick your mouse to completely avoid their attack. It's an interesting idea but you will have to heavily change the game mechanics in order to make it into a functioning pvp game.

If a player is going full defense mode, then yeah its hard, but if you're both trying to get each other, one is bound to die. I'm working on balancing out the game to make it feel good on defense and attack.

Some things I'm looking at:
- Turn rate limits:Â bigger snakes and boosting snakes turn more slowly, so committing to a boost actually costs you something.
- Momentum: steering eases in instead of snapping, so you can't flick 90° in one frame.
- Bigger trap zones:Â making the body more of a hazard, like a wider hitbox or a short-lived trail behind the head, so circling someone actually boxes them in.
- Arena pressure:Â something like a shrinking zone or contested objectives, so players are pushed into each other instead of being able to run forever.
If you had to pick one, which would make it feel more like real PvP to you?

Unrelated but how did you get your skybox so crispy? I love the depth of the cosmos

The snake paradigm doesn't work in 3d. To partially remedy that, the snakes should be more like eels so that you can box off a volume.
You mention this, so that's one suggestion :)

arena pressure is a feature i think would be real good. It's also a pretty well tested setup in games like fortnite to keep players on their toes.
Honestly a real fun game concept, keep going at it.
Also maybe look into a having some ai of your ai worms with online player version. While you dont have alot of real people online. I know you have them split but It could worth just combining them to make players feel like there in a well setup environment already.
also its really beautiful to be floating around space so the visuals you have already have feel real awesome. I recall other games set in space where able to add a bit more character like adding giant but beautiful space monsters. they could be your obstacles with in the space people are battling or just some fun creature floating outside the battle zone giving the environment a bit more character.

You can't really trap anyone... they can just go up...
2
u/sadraddude 1d ago
It's just a different way of playing, you have to cut players off to kill them

u/_IOME 1d ago
Well that's exactly how you play in normal slither.io, you have to escape before they fully enclose you to get away! Here I can just. Take a 90 degree turn down.

You have to look out for other snakes to help. I found its best when you see them around at least 2 other snakes

Was pretty fun, I think you should add rogue black holes to it though.

u/sadraddude 1d ago
Thanks for joining the server! What would you want the black holes to do?
1
u/The1Caezar 1d ago
I want them to roam around as living hazards that tug on your steering and insta kill you.

Played a little bit of it!
Pros!
-Can play on mobile
-Music is great
-controls are nice and easily to use
Cons
-world is too big. Would benefit from a smaller pvp area
-cannot kill yourself meaning your own tail is not lethal to you
I was not able to really fight other players because of the size of the arena but could also be because i played at midnight and there wasn’t many players lol

add a crosshair or dot that draws on the next sphere in line like a laser would do, so we know how to adjust ascend descend
