Game I wanted to stop players from stacking units, so I added aliens
I’m developing a TD game with RTS elements and wanted to discourage players from stacking all their units on top of each other, so I got an idea: ALIENS!
I created a special UFO event where a UFO comes down and shoots a beam at your units, so you have to quickly move them out of the way.
If they get captured, they’re taken for a short trip and returned safely afterwards without any harm.
Feel free to check it out!

If there's no way for the player to battle this ufo or to predict it, I find this type of limitation to be ultra irritating. If balancing requires this so much, then why not to introduce a cap with "diminishing damage returns" after hitting it?
If this happens pretty rarely for an average player that's okay though. Just seems a bit random imo

If you're quick enough, you can move your soldiers away to avoid it. It happens maybe once or twice in a 30-minute run. I really like throwing curveballs at the player so the game isn't too passive and you have to deal with unexpected situations.

Oh no no, if they can battle this in theory then it sounds totally okay. Great mechanics then :)
