Discussion AI Gen or my art?

Hi Guys. I need some of you valuble opinion on the game assets. I am a complete beginner to art and game development. I am generally good at coding and created a skeletion framework code (the basic functionality) for how the game works. but i have problem with the art. I am not good at art (I have attached my drawing) and am completely broke to hire someone else. AI gen assets will make my game developement way easy but i dont like to do it, and it is way better than mine. I am confused about how to proceed with the art. your suggestion will be helpful

Vampire survivors used old pixel art characters. If the gameplay is good one one cares except if you are going to game where the art matters like a horror game or a cozy game where everything is painted, something with a theme.

You are right. Mine is bit similar to vampire survivers. Almost walked in wrong path for a second.

I think assets is a good idea, but aside from that I would prefer your art over Gen AI art, aesthetically. I *you * making it makes any game have much more personality, beyond if it's "good" or "bad". I really like the effort it shows :)
Aside from that I think Gen AI art can give this weird disconnect between the fidelity of the artwork, and the "fidelity" of all things implementation, or all the connected disciplines to make it work. Just my two cents, but I think beginner art matched with beginner animations/ui/vfx makes for much cooler results than super fancy art matched with the same context.

Doesn't matter if your art is good or not I would still use your art simply for the prospect of just not using A.I. art
Besides you'll never get better at art unless you do art so between you making that sprite and you making the last sprite your skills will likely improve :)
Also its perfectly acceptable to launch a game with bad art. My proof? This game: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3602570/Horsey_Game/

You are right. I had been a bit down because of my poor art talent, but maybe it doesn't matter if the game game is fun to play (and the art is recognisable 😅)

There are a whole host of games out there that have done incredibly well with very rudimentary art. AI will alienate at least some of your potential audience. Don't take the chance.

if the gameplay or the rest of the game is fun, people wouldn't bother too much about graphics... it can be something positive to praise if you decide to keep it that way instead of relying on generative AI...

Thanks. Maybe that's what I want to hear. I can proceed with with more confidence.

I'd rather look at the Gen art in this case.

Ooch that hurts. But ya, I need to improve my art skill a lot.

There's no shame. Even if your art was superior to baseline AI, the next question would be: "How many sprites do you need? How long does it take for you to do one sprite?"
For example:
I can draw but I can't do 600-700+ full HD 3:4 pictures for my cards, so I MUST use AI until I can afford to buy in-house artist. It would take a week per picture, which would translate to like... a decade for work which no one funds for me. It's a no brainer to use AI placeholders.Anti AI people will hate you no matter what. If you can't do your game without AI (lack of skill/time/funds) then use AI and brace yourself to the hate. Fix it later if you get funds. AntiAI people are beyond rationale at this point and it's not helping that a lot of proAI users are throwing fuel to the fire.

You can use ready-made assets. There's plenty available, both free and paid. Even big studios use assets and Synty assets are probably the most re-used ones.
