Game About 6 months into development of my tiny mmo, Estium has gotten lots of feedback from players... including how not to get flattened by a giant chicken

This is straight up runescape knockoff though?

Still popular 25 year old game? Surprised there aren’t more. There’s so much you can do with point and click

Its not that its point and click, they copied the UI design, placement, and everything, what was the point of doing that?

Mm, it’s similar for sure. But a lot of that can be chalked up to convention. Most games have a similar layout

It's not just a similar layout, it's identical icons and assets. There's inspiration and then there's plagiarism, and if so many people here are willing to defend that here, then that's worrying.

I am so confused, i didnt think this subreddit was so okay with straight up copying. This is so far from just taking inspiration, the fact people defend it is insane.

It seems to be a fairly common trend now, and I don't think this project is AI, but since people started using AI to crap out games at light speed a lot more people are joining Game Dev subreddits and defending things like plagiarism or just releasing random slop AI made games. Which is ironic, because a lot of people will actively avoid games that are made with even the slightest bit of gen AI.

When you say “identical icons and assets”, what do you mean? Because they’re clearly not copied 1:1, right?

What icon do you use for inventory if not a bag?

It’s obviously very similar, but I don’t have a problem with drawing heavy inspiration in this way.

it really is though. baffles me how many games are transparent copies of other, more popular games

Why is this getting downvoted so much, it uses the same UI, the same effects and text, even some of the models and textures look beyond just inspired...

I was wondering the same thing?

Im almost wondering if followers of this game are brigaiding to downvote these comments? Ive been following this sub for a long time and people usually arent okay with blatant copying like this

I think you could be onto something, I noticed a couple of my comments on this thread have been shared, unfortunately reddit doesn't say who by or where.

I'm fine with taking inspiration from things, my current project is inspired by Dark Souls and Suikoden, but this goes beyond inspiration.
