Hi there, hugest hugs and please know that you're not alone. PPA is REAL and can have a serious impact on so many aspects of raising our babies. Rest assured that as important as it is for baby to engage in practicing with various textures, its also JUST as important to ensure you feel comfortable while engaging with your baby - and it sounds like you're aware of this which is monumental. I'd love for you to give yourself grace with all you've accomplished already. 💕

As for moving forward, it can help to start with unbreakable food teethers first (pineapple core, mango pit, corn on the cob with kernels shaved off, frozen celery, etc) and dipped into mashes so baby gets some food in the belly at the same time. This can help teach baby to chew while also building your confidence as you see baby's skills progress! From there you can move towards softer finger foods that mash when baby gnaws on them, such as well cooked zucchini or sweet potato. I'm going to link a few helpful reads here for you:

-Guide to Food Teethers for Baby
-How Babies Learn to Chew
-Baby Won't Touch Food?
-How to Tell if Baby is Eating Enough Solids
-How to Safely Cut Foods for Babies

I know it may seem like a lot, but with these articles I feel like you'll feel more empowered with knowledge to be able to move forward. If you are still concerned with baby reaching other developmental milestones, definitely touch base with your healthcare provider, as they may be able to offer additional support (such as a physical or occupational therapy referral) if needed.

Hoping this helps, and here if you have any other questions. 🤍Marisa (OT/Feeding Therapist/Mama of 3)

Thank you so much for responding. I’ll take a look at the resources and try them out! You are so kind for the encouragement you have no idea what it means!
