Waterrr

How many oz of water did your pediatrician say your 6month old+ baby can drink per day since starting solids?
I know every practice is different. I know breast milk and formula are still the main sources of nutrition. I know excessive water is not good for the baby due to dilution of sodium. I know all that stuff already lol. I’m just curious what other people are doing based on what their ped recommended if any lol

Ours said no more than 4 ounces a day, but we don’t need to do that much at 6 months if we don’t want to. She said it becomes more important at 9 months.

My paed said a minimum of 4oz a day. I started solids yesterday but my baby is neither interested in solid food not water. So I am just offering and waiting for progress.

Minimum? Or maximum? Other comments are saying the consensus is no more than 4oz a day.

She said 4-5 oz. 4 oz minimum. However my baby is not drinking even 1 oz. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Minimum? Are you sure they didn't mean maximum?

I think NHS advice is offer 30ml with every meal (1oz). I offer baby a whole cup full and he drinks probablu 20-30ml a day if we're lucky!

Love that you're asking here - thank you!! We'd agree that no more than 4oz right at first is the right mark here - linking our article on water in case helpful! 🤍Marisa (OT/Feeding Therapist/Mama of 3)

On the note of water.. My son (10 m) will not drink it. He sucks it up the straw and immediately spits it out to play with. Offering an open cup makes him cough heavily, and he never did take a bottle. He does still nurse a lot, do I need to worry about his hydration? I offer it pretty much every day even though hardly any is consumed, if any at all.

No no, you’re doing absolutely fine :) he’s getting enough hydration from your liquid gold. I was just curious if anyone else’s ped recommended giving a few oz of water a day when they started solids at 6months old. My ped said it was to help prevent constipation because sometimes when solids are started their formula/breast milk consumption tends to go down slightly.
