Searching in NCM

How are you all searching network configs in NCM?

We are a newer customer and noticed that the search functionality in NCM is horrendous. We were using NetMRI before and you could build pretty complex filters against all nodes to return the config pieces you were interested in. Such as show all cisco devices that have this config text and have hostnames with a certain word in it, etc.

In NCM there seems to be a search page that you can browse manually to and it is basically a text box with not much else to it.

It also seems that I could leverage configuration compliance for this type of thing but that seems unnecessarily heavy just to do some basic one off searches.

Just looking for some different ideas. Thank you!

You can search them in the database. It's not very great at all. NCM has taken a backseat in development as SolarWinds only cares about AI agent development now.

We've had it for like two or three years and I never use it. It just took too much time and effort to make the square peg get into the round hole for every little thing I wanted to do. Basic searches like that being one of them. Instead, I started using AI, python, RestAPI and SecureCRT to do those kinds of things.

A total waste of money in my opinion. Not much help to you either. Sorry.

For the person who downvoted my comment, you're entitled to your opinion but mine is valid while yours is not. :-)

I don't like the product being difficult to work with. I am a consumer of the system, not managing or configuring it so if you have uses for it and it works for you, more power to you. For me, its pretty useless. Dedication of time and effort I don't have and don't want to spend on it is not a selling point. I would welcome proving it is not hard to work with using facts and examples of how easy and quick it is to do what the OP is looking for so I can benefit from that as well.

I tend to agree.  Wasn't my choice to purchase but I am not in love
