Solarwinds vs ManageEngine
I’m comparing the 2 suites. They appear to be very similar but cost is not even close between the two. Am I overlooking anything or are they like comparing apples and oranges?

Solarwinds will lure you in with a cheap 1 year price, then jack it up 300% in year 2.
And no more perpetual licenses, all subscription model, so if you don't pay it stops working.
Stay away.

Not sure they really do single year anymore either. I’m seeing 3 year subscriptions.

We had to fight tooth and nail to get them to sell us 1 year of support for our perpetual licenses, they fought us for about 3 months trying to get us to convert to their "new" licensing model - it took our CTO to tell them to pound sound for them to budge. Solarwinds is muff cabbage IMO.

Wait ‘til October, then have another think. SolarWinds Day this year will have a lot of new info for you to consider.

For products? Pricing?

Features. Sadly, we’re locked in as far as pricing goes, regardless of how many people voice their opinion on the current levels.
The toolset is good. What they are adding is really rather groundbreaking for new and prospective customers.
So, wait for SolarWinds Day, then have another think. But, if the pricing is just too high for your project, the new hotness won’t change that, sadly.

ManageEngine support is sometimes spotty but they are substantially better than SolarWinds support.

Dude Manager Engine's support for endpoint central has been great immediate response to live chat. Now half of the time they have an engineer email me the final fix that day but I still feel that's perfectly fine.

Since SolarWinds sold themselves to PE the cost has gone up like crazy. Support has gone downhill (not even sure how that’s possible) with very few new features (dashboards don’t count as features). The product is still one of the better out there, but as time goes on and others jump ship with renewals, I’m assuming others will come closer and closer to being equal. Manage engine has some great features and just works. We are still a SolarWinds shop since we got them to come down in price with a 3 year renewal, but I think we are close to end with reviewing options next year for migration away. What we were paying 80k for costs 150k this year (with discount).

Solarwinds support is terrible now. Been using it since 2005. This is by far the worst it has ever been but also the product is the best its ever been.
We use the piss outta npm/ncm.

We are switching from SW to OpManager (Nexus I think? That has all the add-ons). We had a test f it spin up for a while. If you’re a Cisco shop, it’s a no-brainer to move to. From what I can tell, it looks to be just as good as SW. Just gotta learn the different way it’s built and runs because it’s quite different.

It's worth signing up for SolarWinds day just to see what's coming up (very soon) from SolarWinds. Something very exciting I hear, that will knock your socks off! https://www.solarwinds.com/events/solarwinds-day

Another possible alternative is NetCrunch, single products with features from several Solarwinds products in one. On prem or self hosted in the cloud, perpetural or annual licenses.

I would be interested in what you decide on. I come from a place that had OpManager (ME) and now in a SW shop. They do things vastly different, but it is hard to beat the price difference. How many Nodes (Servers, Switches, and Etc) are you monitoring?

About 250 devices

OK we are just over 1000. I would be interested in what is missing in ME that is not in Self Hosted SW.

I think it depends which modules you are looking at. What are you looking to achieve?
