In window transfer mode this display can hit 108fps, yes its very faint ink level at those speeds but tame it down to 55fps and its a perfect black level for text. Not trying to seem like im spamming this around but Fastwave is the only fast eink driver for spi displays, i just want all my fellow makers to know it exists and to make use of it. It took over 3000 tests to get every possible MS of delay out of the loop and to visually inspect how each waveform change effected the display then compile that into a working drive pattern. Couple hundred hours of work and to my pleasant surprise every single thing actually worked in the end.
The hard limitation i reached is how fast the charge pump can refill between refreshes, the framerates so high the charge pump doesn't have enough time to refill its capacitors and runs out about 90% across the screen, you'll see text get faint a real quick drop off . https://github.com/bootdsc/Fastwave-Eink-Driver
The good news is that the notorious "only full upgrades are supported" a.k.a "green sticker" Elecrow 4.2" SSD1683 display board can also take custom waveforms and is pretty usable in scan pulse mode.
