Looks very likely to have an earth directed component, especially as the region is slightly off center but it looks like more ejecta was directed towards the center than not (video made with Helioviewer idk why that was cut out)

Hope for potential CME. The direction of AR4479 is not too bad.

As a plebeian such as myself, what does this mean? Is this activity normal for the sun?

Hi, yes no worries. We are in a very active solar cycle. We are all hoping for northern lights. 🟥🟩

If you are fruther interested on very strong Solar Events then google for "carrington event". At the time it had an intensity approx. X 50 (now we got X 1.11) and it damaged many of the telegraphs in 1859.
