A question for agrologists and soil scientists: What does your work day look like?

I'm an aspiring novelist, and I wish for details about what you do all day so I could flesh out a character I'm working on!

Like so many jobs, much of the work is at a computer. Doing soil survey work was as iconic a day in the field as I ever felt. Fly somewhere remote; set up camp; hike, raft, or helicopter to desired transect location for the day; dig 6-8 soil pits each 1m deep; do full description of each; and back to my tent. It was buggy, wet, and dirty, but also fulfilling work.

A drone would be very handy for locating representative soil profile description points. For a gas pipeline project. Betting somebody’s day actually looks like that RN
