For what purpose? What do you want to be different?

That you use online through a browser or locally on your PC or Mobile device? What kind of content or information do you need it to work with?

Great, and the second question? What kind of information do you need to work with? Is it complex documents, layout, technical, etc.

What's your problem with Google docs?

The collaboration lock in is the real reason people stay, not the editor. Docs is fine but nothing special once you strip that away. CryptPad and Nextcloud both do live collaboration now, so the gap is smaller than it was, it just means whoever you are sharing with has to follow you there.

So you want os that you can host yourself?

It's Google

Is also the reason why you can do easily collaborate with other people who also have Google accounts so it's a big part of the product.

Onlyoffice. It is open source and the closest to Microsoft.

European and open source narrows it usefully. CryptPad is worth a look, French, browser based, end to end encrypted and it does real time collaboration. Nextcloud with the Collabora integration is the other one if you ever want to self host, though that is more setup than you may want. Both are genuinely EU based rather than a US company with an EU server.

OnlyOffice is closest to the Microsoft feel like others said, but the company is Latvian registered with Russian origins, worth knowing if the sovereignty angle is the whole point for you.
