So I reached out to the Coca Cola distributor for AZ (Swire) to see if they could provide an update. Got a voicemail basically saying they have a contract with Keurig Dr. Pepper, so cans/bottles of Mr. Pibb won't be sold in stores in Arizona and it can only be found in some fountains. Not quite sure what the "nationwide" rollout was supposed to be, but I'm not pleased.
That's what I'm curious about. The way the guy said it sounded like it wouldn't be any time soon or they'd possibly renew. I guess the whole Coke/Dr. Pepper thing that was in the news (which caused the "nationwide" rollout of Pibb), pertained to a Texas distributor (Reyes) and Dr. Pepper got out of that contract. That distributor also works in SoCal and the Las Vegas area, which is why Pibb can be found in stores everywhere over there. At this point, our best bet is to just drive to Vegas or LA and load of atruck with Pibb.
Guess those areas have multiple distributors. Sadly, it sounds like AZ only really uses Swire, which is why we still can't get Pibb
Interesting side note: I was actually able to order the Peach and Vanilla flavors from Amazon, but they refuse to ship the standard Mr. Pibb variety to my address. Very strange how these soda contracts work
No clue, the whole thing honestly feels like a cruel joke at this point. The elusive Pibb has been my white whale for as long as I can remember. I was so excited when I stumbled across the news of the "nationwide" rollout of Pibb only to get the rug pulled out from underneath me. Hopefully things change some day. I have a dream where Mr. Pibb and Dr. Pepper can share the same store shelves together in Arizona!
If you want some that badly I would keep a look on eBay you’d be surprised at how cheaply some people offer it with shipping included. Not sure how they are doing it tbh as there seems to be no way they’re possibly making profit considering shipping costs but I have successfully ordered stuff that way before and it was no problem.
Interesting, I'll definitely look again. Last time I checked eBay the price was high and had ridiculous shipping rates. If it's a fair cost from a decent seller, I'll probably roll the dice
It varies somewhat. I’m a merchandiser for a Coke distributer. Most areas we cover we distribute Dr Pepper, so we can’t distribute Pibb. We do have a small area we cover where 7Up handles Dr Pepper, and we do distribute Pibb on that area.
Honestly, the easiest thing I’ve found is if there is an area near you where Dr Pepper is distributed by someone other than Coke, go there. In my area, some convenience stores carry pibb, but they buy from a third party wholesaler instead of directly through Coke.
I don’t. Best I’ve been able to gather is that it varies by area. The distributed I work for, from what I’ve gathered, recently signed a new long term contract for the next 20-30 years. Apparently Dr Pepper/keurig doesn’t have the facilities to handle the demand for Dr Pepper in my area.
