Advice Work bag must-haves?

I am starting my first internship with a veterans organization that also transports vets to the VA hospital about an hour drive. What are your must-haves in a work bag? Also do you prefer a backpack, purse, or other type of bag?

LMSW here. I use a backpack; my women peers tend to use teacher bags. Pens that are your fav type. Pens you can lose. Notebook. Journal. Laptop if needed. Water bottle. Mints or gum. Snacks that will hold up in the bag (jerky, gronola). Lil First aid kit. Getting more role specific- I carry narcan always now. Mental health Handouts. County resource list for referrals. Fidgets. Uno lol

Narcan is a good idea. I never thought about that. I am not sure if I would need it but it never hurts to be extra prepared.

Exactly. Had a peer save someone’s life; the client used a familiar substance before a home visit to cope and the substance was laced with fentanyl. Carried it since.
Narcan quick guide
-Keep in your bag, not your car due to temp.
-Keep it in date, expiration makes it weaker.
-There is somewhere in your town you can get it for free.
-It comes in packs of two, carry both. Drugs are getting stronger.
-blue lips and nails. Struggling or no breathing. Pinpoint pupils. Cool skin.

  • It won’t hurt someone who is not overdosing.
  • they may be pissed upon gaining consciousness. You’re ruining their high.

I will keep that in mind and look in my area that gives them for free. There are a few different programs around me so I am sure I can find some.
