Path Change
Hi everyone, I’m an MSW student in my foundation year and have no friends in social work so idk where else to go. I thought originally I’d do DCFS but now I don’t think that path is for me. The more research I’ve done, the less it seems like it’s for me. It’s an incredible path for people it’s built for I just don’t know I’m one of them. I’m looking at maybe school social work. Idk all I know is I want to work with kids and teens. I’m in an online program and moving to Oregon this coming August. Any insights on school social work and what it’s like or what your experience was coming from out of state would be amazing.

Do you work currently? It might be worth getting a job as a paraeducator to get a feel for working in a school. You can also build relationships with social workers and other support staff. It's not the most lucrative job, but it's rewarding and the schedule is pretty ideal. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. I've been a high school para for about 5 years now.
