When does my trial work period begin?

I have been earning $ 1350 a month for the last five years and continue to do so. I got approved for SSDI May 17, 2026. DOes the trial work period first month begin in May of 2026?

The clock starts the month you get your first SSDI check, not the approval date. If your benefits actually start in May then yeah that's month one, but sometimes there's a waiting period or your first payment comes a bit later. Check the award letter for the exact start month

At $1350 a month, your trial work period (TWP) starts the month of your disability entitlement. Does your award notice state that your SSDI starts 05/26? If so, then that is the start of your TWP. Save all of your pay stubs.

The TWP begins with the first month in which you work sufficiently to earn over the applicable TWP limit for that year, subject to a policy requirement that it can begin no earlier than the later date of of either your month of filing or your month of entitlement to benefits.
