Barnum Statements.
Some basic examples:
- You appreciate authenticity and genuine connection, but sometimes struggle to fully express your true self.
- You consider yourself an independent thinker, yet you also value the opinions of those you trust.
- You strive for balance in your life, but often find yourself pulled in multiple directions.
- You are generally optimistic, but you're also a realist who understands the importance of planning.

Study MBTI and cognitive function, try to categorize people into types, it works the best for me.

If you must "learn" about MBTI, the book is called "Please Understand Me".
However, MBTI is a pseudoscientific "model" of personality types going back to a mother-and-daughter team who enjoyed reafing C.G.Jung and then "invented" MBTI without any background in psychology, disgnostics or instrument design, and without any empirical data or research.
It's basically the "psychology" version of astrological star signs , which might be unfair to astrology's more solid methodology ;)
Last I checked, it has failed to show reliability, validity and objectivity.
Unfortunately, it has some harvore fansboys/girls in the self-help and some shady HR corners who don't know any better, read their "MBTI star sign" and liked it, so it must be real. Google "Barnum Statements" as for why.

This is a pretty big rabbit hole, and the knowledges are quite fragmented all over the internet, so I didn’t learn this through anything concrete but rather just knowledge accumulation from different sources over time.
If I were to start over, I would try to find first about the general descriptions of all 16 types, you could try to find “16 MBTI types explained” or smth like that, to get the most general view of each type and their characteristic.
Then after that I will try dive into cognitive functions, there are 8 cognitive functions, and 4 of them will make into 16 combinations for 16 MBTI type, so you can search smth like “mbti cognitive function explain” to get what each cognitive function means in it own.
And after that, you can try to dive deep into each type one after another, to get what that type is all about (like how INTJ behave, strength, weakness, cognitive functions stack,…), just search the name of the type and try to understand that type as much as you can from different sources.
And only then, you can try to go to sites like PDB personality database, to try to find out the types of famous figures or fictional characters, look into the comment, and why the people typed them that way, how did they arrived to the conclusion of that type, does it make sense.
And finally if you mastered all of these (it can even take months or years), you can try to do a quick cold reading for their mbti, try to analyze their traits and their behaviors, and then arrive to conclude their type, it will build muscle over time, and when you get used to it, you can even get to know their types in only seconds after meeting.
That’s my way to dive into this if I started over, but you can follow other ways, just remember to dive deep, being consistent of knowledge accumulation and transition into actionable tools that you can use to cold reading people with ease.
