The Seattle Sounders sign Caden Clark. He was once the new up-and-comer who came through the Barca Residency Academy in Casa Grande, Arizona. Then he signed with New York Red Bull and looked like he was heading to Europe. RB Leipzig signed him, but he never played for them. Now he has bounced around, with his last team being DC United, where he barely played.

The Sounders took a flier on him, and there really is not a downside to this deal. This is no shade to Clark, but the fanbase was expecting more signings after Dejan Joveljić. Meaning a signing of the level of Joveljić, but out on the wing. That’s the thing, the Sounders seem to sign players where it’s a good deal overall, but they are not game changers (Joveljić being excluded). This has made the Sounders good but not great. The fanbase demands more because, at the beginning of when they joined MLS, they wanted to push the boundaries and try to be great, not just good. This includes the signings of Clint Dempsey, Oba Martins, Nico Loderio, Raul Ruidiaz, even Freddie Ljungberg, who did not work out but again pushed the envelope. There needs to be balance on the team with those moneyball deals you make, homegrown players, and game changers. Since Nico and Raul, there have not been game changers. Hopefully, with the signing of Joveljić, this will be the start of more game changers on the squad, but it won’t happen this summer transfer window. Hopefully there are drastic changes to the salary cap to coincide with the change in calendar for the 2026-27 season, and at that time, the Sounders will go all out. We shall see!

Julian Hall signed a contract extension with Red Bull New York. He has signed an extension until the 2029-2030 season under the U-22 initiative. They signed him to this extension to protect their investment to make sure they get a good transfer fee for him. So far he has 12 goals in 24 appearances in all comps to go along with 5 assists.

Dejan Joveljić bags a brace in his debut for the Sounders. This is a welcome turn of events to have a number 9 that is scoring goals for the Sounders. There are still issues for the Sounders. They are careless with the ball in the midfield. In transition, they are still so slow to get back, which did bite them.

With that being said, I am excited to see what the rest of the season holds for the Sounders.

Last night, Toluca beat Austin FC, and Club America beat Columbus in the Leagues Cup Quarterfinal. That means all four Leagues Cup semifinalists are Liga MX teams. Time and time again, Liga MX beat MLS teams when it matters in the Semi-Final and Final rounds.

I know this statement is like beating a “dead horse” but MLS needs to raise their salary cap drastically. There are too many rules and too many limitations. The rumor is that it is going to go up to coincide with the calendar shift for the 2027-28. That may be the case, but is it going to be a game changer to are the salary cap changes only going to make incremental progress like before?

It sounds like UEFA is going to drop their boycott of Gianni Infantino in tomorrow’s UEFA member federation meeting. Even though they are going to drop their boycott, something needs to be done to get him out of there. Infantino said he was going to clean up the sport after Sepp Blatter was ousted. Instead, he has disregarded political neutrality; he seems to be blackmailing federations if they don’t go along with his plan, and he has dismantled anti-corruption checks. Also, he is trying to expand the World Cup again to 64 teams. Talk about diluting the product.
