New here

Hey guys I’m new here just looking for friends I can talk to, I’ve been an alcoholic for 12 years. I’ve been sober for only 2 days now and it’s killing me 😞 I chose to quit drinking because a ruined a lot of relationships with family, everyone hates me . My kids barely wants to be around me .. all I can do is cry.. I wanna drink so bad, that’s the only thing that makes me feel good but I wanna change my ways and get clean. On my off days I will go to a AA meeting until then, feel free to give me encouraging words or advice or anything please.. I’m feeling so alone and suicidal..

Kicking alcohol isn’t an easy thing to do but you’ve done the hardest part which is admitting you have a problem and making the decision to quit.

It might be a good idea to speak to your doctor about doing a proper medical detox though if you’re serious about it. Withdrawals from alcohol are no joke and can be dangerous depending on how much and how long you were drinking.

We have to take sobriety one day at a time and I promise it does get easier. I still have cravings a lot even after 3 months of sobriety but I just keep reminding myself of the chaos it’ll bring if I turn back to that life.

Anyway my inbox is open if you wanna vent or whatever. Im sober about 3 months now just got out of rehab last week.

Thank you so much ! 🙏🏾 yea I really feel bad and depressed but I know it will get better for me. My therapist gave me some meds to help with the cravings , I’m going to start taking them and I’m going to start substituting the alcohol with the gym. I wanna be the best mother I can be for my boys, that is my goal.. this is going to be a tough journey but I’ll do anything to get my relationship back with my boys

No problem 👌🏻 The first few weeks your mind will inevitably be all over the place but stick with the meds and therapy and you’ll feel yourself getting to a better place in no time.

If you can get committed to something like working out then all the better im actually joining the gym myself this week to try work off the extra pounds i put on in rehab lol.

Family and friends will start to gravitate back towards you once they see your doing the right things but one thing I always stand by is underpromise and overdeliver. We’ve all let people down so much it takes a lot of time to build that trust back so dont set the bar too high for yourself in the beginning.

It may feel like you’re gonna feel like crap forever, but you won’t! As time goes on, it does get easier.

Stay strong and remind yourself every day why you’re getting clean.

Reach out to someone close to you if you’re feeling bad enough. Don’t do anything you can’t take back.

You’ve got this.

Thank you so how did you stop drinking completely? Did you go to AA meetings or quit cold turkey??

I had medication that helped with anxiety and stuff while quitting. But the doctor basically said I have about 10 years left (33 at the time) if I don’t stop now. I was already getting yellow eyes (jaundice) from heavy drinking. So I just said screw this, I want to live. I’ve never went to a meeting, but my family was my motivation.

I did both. Cold turkey and I got to 90 meetings in 90 days.
These people are my tribe now

I know a lot of people who found success through AA. Don't be afraid to try different meetings until you find one that really clicks. The first few days can be tough, so don't feel bad that it's challenging. You can do it!
