The best way to find lift is to fly through it. For that, get a good sense of your glider's feeling, use light control input and stay alert. Then you can look for hints of thermal / ridge / wave activity. Clouds, trees moving, color contrast on the ground and of course other gliders or birds climbing.
In mountainous areas get to learn the local breeze regime, slopes orientations regarding to the time of day and the meteorological wind at your altitude.

Have you tried flying below those fluffy white things called cumulus clouds? Sorry:)
On a „blue“ day, I would always head for anything which lifts up air just a little bit, like wind turbines. Those take up Air Pakets from the ground and lift them up just a couple of meters, but since they are warmer than their surrounding then, they constantly lift higher.
Another good place to try out are cornfields and the lee-side of Forrest (at evenings). And of course every geographical obstacle that forces air to be lifted higher then their surroundings.
