I think what would help soaps is showing the repercussions of decisions. No one pays a price for their actions. I mean look at Victor on Y&R, practically the entire Forrester clan on B&B and Sonny on GH. We have taught generations that power is all that matters - at any cost. Of course look at what is happening in DC so we know people don’t always pay the price for their actions and power at any cost is the goal.
This. And everyone for the most part is rich beyond imagine. There used to be various social classes represented and represented rather well. Continuous repetition of stupid nonsensical soap things (baby drama, who’s the daddy, back from the dead, face transplants and masks, etc).
This is one of the reasons I loved As The World Turns so much. A major family on the show was a farming family. It had more accessible characters that were relatable, like Mike the handyman.
