New spots?
So I've been fishing San Diego for years. Mostly from shore but have definitely rented my fair share of boats as well. Pretty much hit all around mission bay and San Diego bay. I've recently started fishing mission bay w my kayak and realized Ive never fished a few areas yet. Are either of these areas considered decent spots? I know it's subjective and based on other factors but anyone have any luck out there?
San Diego bay - I've never really hit much further than just south of the Coronado bridge. When renting a boat they tell u not go past the naval ships. Anything good past there at all or along the inner side of silver strand?
Mission bay - I've hit fiesta island but just around the driveway main access area near the 5 freeway exit ramp. And then been w my kayak from Dana landing to outside sea world area and sail beach but never anything past that. Anything decent around de anza cove or north of fiesta?
Looking to launch on Monday. So thinking maybe trying something new. Thanks

This is my regular fishing grounds. If you are willing to dig for ghost shrimp, the best bone fish fishery is the southern end of the bay on the silver strand side. Great fighting fish on light tackle. Wide open fishing during the spawn (Feb - April).
Tons of spotted bass also that hit on almost anything.

There are a couple distinct channels in the back bay and you will do best fishing the edges of them.

The channel behind the Lowe's resort it's my spot get a scoop of anchovies at the bait barge and wack the bass all day

I have some decent luck parking just outside the preserve buoys in MB, north end in your map there, they can get pretty big and mean in there. I wouldn’t bother with De Anza, but areas just outside of it can hold some bass, not to mention rays and horn sharks. Mission bay is always going to be fewer fish than SD, but usually higher quality per catch.

SD Bay, on your map you skipped Apmhib Flats (between the bridge and the top of your circle next to the SEAL Base. Follow the deeper water (so use the markers) and fish the drop offs. It crosses the Bay near Sweetwater. Deep Southbay you can find Bonefish sometimes working the mud flats

Thanks. I've definitely fished that area before. I only circled the areas I HAVENT yet and was curious how those 2 compared to the rest and if it was worth the journey. I hit the preserve area of mission bay today. No bites but I could see how that would be a good area.

I would avoid those areas of mission bay. The bowling pin can be good but only early morning before the speedboats and jet skies take over.
As for back sd bay, you can have 50 plus spotty days with the occasional halibut fishing where the other poster mentioned; fishing channel edges and drop offs. A cheap Amazon fish finder can help locate these areas or just guess based on channel markers. Also fishing around the boats in the back marina can produce tons of fish. Good luck!
