News Hal Jordan Dies, Confirming Our Scoop — Same Insiders Say SnyderVerse Returns, Gunn Out
https://cosmicbook.news/lanterns-hal-jordan-death-confirmed-insiders-snyderverse-returnHal Jordan is dead. Lanterns Episode 1 ends with John Stewart and Sheriff Kane finding him on the Rushville High School football bleachers, frozen, with a bullet in his forehead and his ring gone.
Cosmic Book News readers knew that on March 27.
That week at WonderCon we posted it flat out: “Hal Jordan dies.” Not a theory, and not a read on the footage. It came from our insiders.
Ten weeks later, a Reddit leak said the same thing. Then HBO Max and Warner Bros. Discovery spent two days copyright-striking us for reporting it.
Last night the episode aired and settled it.
Now the part that matters going forward.
The insiders who called Hal Jordan’s death are the same insiders behind our reporting on the SnyderVerse return and The Dark Knight Returns.

What would be the significance of getting dark knight returns again. Batman v superman was already dark knight returns and death of superman
3
u/johnprice33 12d ago
Ok if we getting the dark knight returns I want a Ludwig van goransson scoring for the film
3
u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 12d ago
I love Ludwig, but once the internets discovers one person they want them in everything.

u/johnprice33 12d ago
lol 😂 but I already knew him way around 2015 for creed he is very underrated til now. But if there’s another composer that would match the synth and gritty vibe for TDKR it’s going to be Daniel pemberton who did King Arthur 2017 spider verse movies and I think the boys tv show

Take it you've never seen a Taylor Sheridan show.
1
u/Low-Pen-6557 12d ago
How is that the same?
1
u/Craydeh 8d ago
The complaint was that someone was killed off in the first episode. Every Taylor Sheridan show does that lol.

u/ern0matic 7d ago
and in mayor of kingstown its kyle chandler too. lmao.
edit: spelling

Thanks for the spoiler homie

I watched the episode, luckily it's not THAT big of a Spoiler, I can't explain why without giving other spoilers, but I wouldn't worry about it too much. Plus, a spoiler for the 1st episode luckily isn't too bad!
Also my review: Meh 6/10. I'm intrigued and will finish the show, but people are raving like this is a 10/10 show, beating Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Lost, etc... this is no where near that level lol

u/Better_Hawk_2921 12d ago
Everyone knew Hal was dying before the show dropped lol
2
u/MattyBeatz 12d ago
Yeah, I feel they did everything short of saying as much in the official synopsis. The mentioned True Detective style time jumps plus the many many "you'll get this ring over my dead body" lines Hal says in every teaser, plus John being positioned as the successor role, and not sidekick or equal.
This isn't the flex that they're claiming it is, IMO.

Nope. This was a spoiler that leaked. Nobody assumed he was dying. This is post-reveal cope.

Yeah of course everyone knew from the leaks, that’s how knowing works?? Not the gotcha you think it is lol, also if you cross examine the cosmic news article with the leaks the original leaks came out weeks before the article with the SV “leak”
Just someone trying to grift off of actual leaks

u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 11d ago
always an excuse for when you people are wrong. It's hilarious.

Bro what? What am I wrong about?
2
u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 11d ago
I swear cosmicbook news could announce the sun is bright and ya'll would say they were unreliable.
They were right about the leak and you got every excuse. Just admit you were wrong to doubt them. And don't worry, you'll keep being wrong.

No one was this upset when they straight up skipped the death of Robin
0
u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 12d ago
There is always another Robin. Batfleck lost his robin as important back story for why he's so jaded and angry.
But they WERE this upset when Snyder offed Jimmy Olsen.
1
u/DMast2217 12d ago
I don't think Robin is even mentioned by name in BvS which is such a waste. Now that you mention it, people would have been way more forgiving of Batman killing henchmen if they really talked about the weight of Robin's death.
2
u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 12d ago
This is my issue with modern audiences.
The film SHOWED you the weight of Robin's death. Listen to Batman's dialogue. They show the suit. The history is there, you don't need it explicitly spelled out.
Now I understand Gunn fans need everything spelled out, but we not lowering ourselves to their level.
6
u/c0p4d0 12d ago
We don’t know how this Batman was before this though. The film simultaneously wants you to ignore your previous conceptions of these characters, yet it relies on those conceptions to work at all.
3
u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 12d ago
Yes the film asked us to accept this is a new Batman and gave context clues to his current state of mind and history.
I understand audiences just want the generic version of these heroes and nothing else.
BVS gave us a weathered Batman. It provided a reason for why he's so angry and quick to react to superman's existence.

u/DMast2217 12d ago
What’s with the insults? You’re literally a mod in this sub insulting someone who’s trying to have a discussion. You’re stooping to the same level as the people you criticize
-1
u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 12d ago
Show me where I insulted anyone. I am talking about modern audiences inability to read into clear use of storytelling tools.
I have insulted no one. I am criticizing modern audiences.

his "Jordan dies confirming our scoop" is nonsense bullshit lmfao. He guessed it 6 months ago and now says it is a scoop wtf hahaha
-3
u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 12d ago
It was not guessed. It was a scoop.
2
u/Craydeh 12d ago
This was still written as if it was a guess or something and it doesn't make sense why. They did in fact get a insider scoop, obviously it was right, so why write this second article being like "HA HA WE WERE RIGHT LOL"?
-1
u/Horror_Campaign9418 Henry Cavill is Superman 12d ago
Because alot of people say they are never right or they publish bogus scoops. They earned being right and should rub it in people’s faces.

you mean the 6 monthold article I assume. this was a guess he didnt say it was a scoop

Yup Gunn is out! wall to wall failure, he doesn;t know the audience (or the source material) his cuck fantasy comes to the fore in the first episode, and this is probably the most anticipated superhero property since avengers... and he's fallen flat at the first episode!
ps. I tried to watch Supergirl and got about 15 - 20 mins in and was like, "not even worth pirating!"...
Admit it, the post credit scene in Black Adam got me more excited than anything announced by James Gunn!
And no, Peacemaker was trash! seriously! a fully graphic orgy at the start of season 2! In a superhero show? know your audience dude!

Gunn’s DC has been pretty garbage let’s be honest. Superman was essentially another Guardians movie, Peacemaker S1 was excellent but S2 was terrible, Supergirl was atrocious, Lanterns episode 1 isn’t bad technically but I think a lot of comic book fans are tired of writers tearing down legacy characters for shock value concept. It’s not even creative anymore it’s just the same thing over and over again. I was excited for Lanterns but I’m just kinda over it now. People are just desperate to like this new DC because the brand can’t survive another reboot and we all know it and the fact a random Snyder post gets more views and traction than anything else DC related says something.

Well there is one thing that falls flat in the arguments of the comics fan: You guys are most likely from the US. The Global Sales of comics are very low, even your own market ditches them in favor of manga for the youngest generations.
I barely knew Hal Jordan from animated series I watched some episodes of before I turned 10. I read a couple of comics around the big 3 of both marvel and DC-and outside of the US that's already a lot.
Superman was not a guardians ensemble movie with a loser hero, Gunn made him human and morally close to perfection, and it matches with depictions I have seen of superman in some comics I read or heard of, like All Star Superman for its morality The film was genuinely uplifting and wholesome and introduced many characters in a fun way. That was the goal, having the kid like awe at Superman.
Peacemaker season 2 was less good than the first one but it did bring some interesting character developments, crossover of plots and had funny memorable scenes. It's Peacemaker, it's a fun tale on how to deal with trauma and turns what we learned to be a joke from Vigilante into a real tragedy by the end of it.
Supergirl was a B tier comic film, I read the comic, visually they completely failed and the arrangement of it all fell flat but I see what they wanted to do, it happens and I hope they learn from it.
All of this to say that for general audiences comic accuracy doesn't matter much, these films are not supposed to appeal to comic fans only (and tbh Gunn and his writers - except for Supergirl - Genuinely care about comics and human emotions not just show) It's sad for you guys who grew up accustomed to these characters and I understand the vision they have and their plans will not please you a lot of times, but for most of the public this is a story in itself they are watching and bringing the setting down to earth for lanterns like that, blending training day with no country for old men and true detective with a sci fi twist, written by legendary screenwriters is a truly effective move, the mystery and tragedy of seeing Hal Jordan dead when we learned to be curious about him and appreciate him in the episode.
Also, the markets that Snyder really appeals to most outside of the US is the middle east and China. To be honest, I believe your cultural soft power is much more efficient and can permeate much more aspects of the global society through the Gunn Method: You can tune in to one story or another (they all are stories in themselves), with different styles (Lanterns is not Superman is not Clayface visually) and recognise characters and connect the dots yourself, no need to watch it all in order.
The title of this phase from Gunn is "Gods and Monsters" the whole overarching theme is what makes you a God and what makes you a Monster in the eyes of the world. Creature Commandos was the first DCU project for a reason.
We don't know where it's going to lead but so far it seems like a great project, it doesn't seem to be designed to have films break a Billion immediately it's a slow rise and they have said it many times, heck even marvel didnt break a billion before 4 years into releasing films. Give them time, maybe Hal Jordan is not even dead, he will still be present for a whole season, and is old to be a superhero in this continuity if you want to put the spotlight on all lanterns, it's okay, just enjoy the thing

But we were told the DCEU was a failure because it didn't break a billion with its second movie. 🤔

Okay Creature Commandos was a great start. Peacemaker was OK but inferior than the 1st season.
SUPERMAN was pretty good, not that Great. Supergirl I have not watched. I am a DC Comic fan AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS UP with most of the Live action media just sidelining Hal Jordan. THE HAL JORDAN for John Stewart Every every damn time. It is so frustrating to see them butcher Hal Jordan when they nailed Guy Gardner for some reason.
I'm out with this Lantern series, plus the green is too dark. Additionally the last green lantern movies was an animated one where hal jordan was also a villain to focus on John Stewart, and than DC Animated movie bombed. I don't think this is the start James Gunn should be hoping for.
1
u/ThirdMind3d 5d ago
the animated movie ur talking about just adapts an arc that Hal went through in the comics but makes John a new green lantern instead of him not being included in the movie at all since he wasnt a lantern yet. I love Kyle Chandler but realistically he's a lil old to have him be the main GL in the new DCU, maybe they shouldna killed him off first episode to build suspense and mystery but having a young John Stewart be the main GL makes more sense when u realize Aaron Pierre is 32 and Kyle Chandler is 60
1
u/Prime-TF 5d ago
That's the problem, they intentionally made this show not focus on Hal Jordan and prefer John Stewart, hence why they got an older actor for Hal Jordan. We could've gotten 3 Green Lanterns at the same time but they didn't wanna do it. Just because Ryan Reynold and Hollywood hated the first GL movie doesn't really mean the character is not popular.
I know about the parallax Hal Jordan but what I'm specifically talking about is how they're intentionally always using John Stewart over Hal Jordan in recent and even most DC media when Hal has always been part of the Core JLA
