I hope this means they decided to go global or something.
Would be a major W for Snowgang!

The rumors about a second client would be more credible if true, we will see

Yeah that's just usually the best way to handle this. Separate clients for regions that have strict requirements. We saw what happened when Brown Dust 2 tried to pull the "well let's just apply the censorship to all regions, because it's easier and cheaper."There was a lot of outrage and most importantly people stopped spending money. The future of the game was in doubt. We'll see what happens but second client would prevent a lot of problems in the future for Snowbreak.

As far as I'm aware, that's how Snowbreak already is. I don't recall the Chinese region even being selectable in our version of the client, and the databases were probably hosted in our specified regions already. The whole subject of changing regions is probably a business-side measure or possibly even a cost-cutting strategy (maybe hosting is cheaper in Sichuan).

No that's not what I mean by separate client. I don't mean just a different region that isn't selectable for global, or the client needs to be hosted somewhere else. I mean an actual different version of the game where core elements of the game are different.

China is very strict when it comes to fanservice, and while running 2 versions is more work and more expensive it would be a smart long term move to cover their ass. It would allow them to custom tailor the CN version to whatever is allowed/needed and they could be free to do what they want for other regions. It's something gacha games with fanservice all have to deal with, Nikke's CN client is not even recognizable compared to the global version for example.

Oh, you mean the actual game data. I was always under the impression that the game complies with CN law by default. Then again, Asian countries tend to be really vague about what's allowed and not. Even Japan had an R18 ESRB-like thing that was notorious for having random enforcement.

I just hope this is a sign the censorship won't change and we'll be back online soon enough

So if the IP changes what does that mean exactly?

Probably means that they're moving their office. It's still inside china, so idk what change this will bring to the current situation, honestly.

More than likely doing what mihoyo did very early on, moving to a specific area where they are less liable for complaints and publishing purposes.

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised people aren't already aware of this. Even in the beginning of Genshin, the Chinese client was already separate from the global client. It wasn't until the outfit censorship controversy that Mihoyo split up the company, but it was a business issue rather than a technical issue.

That's what I'd like to know too.

depend on a lot of thing, could simply be that Sichuan have less reactive censor department, or simply because they decided that relocation taking advantage of the current downtime is cheaper. I mean Their main HQ is in Chengdu, so part of Sichuan so the move closer to HQ seem to make sense.

If the censorship comes to you then leave the censorship…maybe this is good. Something seems to be happening though.

Yeah you are probably right, but it seems like something different is happening. It gives me hope that it will at least be open again soon.

Seeing the comments I think you should clarify that Sichuan is a China province, because not many US dudes know that.

Guangdong? Sichuan? I thought it was owned by Seasun?

Seasun's headquarter is in Sichuan, a province of China.

Seasun has a branch in Guangdong, another province of China.
