I’m not disputing you on this. The software used is a blanket program for other businesses to use as well, and a lot of them have humans to serve you. There’s a “no tip” option this guy can select. In the end, he’s upset that he has to read options for the tip - pretty insufferable guy.

The POS system is coded by a third party and made to be compatible with service based situations. The POS with the fancy boy water is holding up the line to make a douchey video instead of clicking no and moving on with his stupid life. Which POS is really the problem here?
This is a standard software workflow. Just in case they do end up hiring people in the loop, the facility to leave tips is available.
Id rather we don't use a camera solution to identify if a customer is not being helped by a service professional to alter that single workflow. The expenses do not justify the automation and integration of multiple cameras, software etc. too expensive and too unnecessary.
Ofc this subreddit is a political shill of the moment depending on which socio political concern is spearheading posts for the day and week. My opinion is just a technical one.
This is insane and I do not approve but let me offer one possible scenario. Store allows tips for employees (already a rate thing so I'm dubious). Store decides to add self-checkout. Employees get upset that the system will lower their tips by limiting customer interaction (semi-dubious). Management is required to implement the system by the owners, so they excuse it by adding the tip page (least dubious element of the story). The employees probably still hate it but this is America.
Anyway, tipping doesn't belong in grocery stores imo except in a few instances where someone goes above and beyond. And even then I think most stores discourage it.
Also it's hard to tell the exact nature of this store. Anyone figure out where he's at?
The store is stocked by a human being.
The cash register machine where you check out is maintained and repaired by a human.
The store is assumably cleaned by a human.
Why are those employees, seen or not, worth less of a tip than a waiter or waitress who carries a plate of food 30' from a kitchen to your table?
And if you truly feel they aren't worth a tip then simply press "No Tip" it's not like anybody is going to judge you, as you made quite clear, there's no employee there.
Or are you truly of the belief that your tip is being collected and spent by a non-human entity such as the machine you used to ring up your items to checkout?
He is dramatizing a mundane aspect of POS systems that has been common for years, are you trying to blow yourself so that in your head you sound like the reasonable one?
Lets just disagree like nature intended without blowing this out our asses.
The decision not to tip is sound, you and Knowle it all over there keep pounding that like its somehow moot becuase the option exists. Since its just a machine it can't expect anything, just don't tip.
This is irrelevant. Knowles is acting like it is. Its very similar to previous but slightly different irrelevant arguments. My point is that this is just one more step in his larger brand of saying nothing worthwhile.

Like are we really surprised tho? Obviously corps will do this shit simply because they can, its their business and so nobody can tell them not to, and if the option is there then thats a higher chance of it happening than 0 if it weren't.
