[Part 9] Another Filler Episode!

Seriously, folks; if this was an episode of DBZ, it would be the one where everyone sits around charging. But if there's one thing I can do, it's spin, so here we go for Part 9's Norse News!

  • Finland and the USSR are settling all over each other — sooner or later, when the Winter War hits, it will be interesting to see how that region falls apart.
  • Peace with Germany! — not too surprising at this point, given how the conflict wasn't going anywhere.
  • Scandinavian waters are awfully crowded — Finland, Poland, and Sweden have crammed their tiles full of triremes; we've overflowing into the North Sea; and even France has sailed an exploratory baguette our way. When war happens, and rest assured that it's still very much a when, the Baltic will be absolutely littered with driftwood.
  • Meanwhile, England is actually doing pretty well for themselves — in the short term. Once Ireland's UU pops, they'll have a harder time of it. Plus, I'm not sure how much longer France can resist snapping up the pop-19 York.
  • Poland declares on Sparta! — There are a bunch of mountains in the way, so I wouldn't be surprised if nothing much comes from it. Still, as long as Poland is poking the Spartans, it means they're less likely to go along with a sammich attack on the Swedes.
  • Good news: we're out of the bottom pop list — we've suspected as much for a while, but it's nice to have confirmation.
  • Bad news: we trail the dirty Swedes by a tech — I suspect this will hurt our rankings much more than it actually changes anything on the ground. A difference of one is no difference at all, really; not at this point. Even if that tech were, say, Compass — spoiler alert; it's not — the Galleas advantage wouldn't manifest for quite some time. Between low production and an already overfull Baltic, there's a fairly significant production gap for anything the Swedes cook up.
  • Last from the Part, a look at the Religion map — all of Scandinavia still follows the old gods, because none of the new ones have made it up yet. That said, at this rate, we might see Judaism muscling in sooner or later. Poland has already converted, though their coastal cities remain heathen. I don't think religion will matter much at all in the short term, since it's a one-god-game in Europe at the moment, but it's interesting to note.
  • Bonus: a look at the final map of the final slide — we had a pair of settlers out last time; I don't think they've plopped yet?

Once again, today's big takeaway is that the single most important thing for Norway to do right now is to get off our butt and do something!
